    Walk the Edge - cover

One moment of recklessness will change their worlds

Smart. Responsible. That's seventeen-year-old Breanna's role in her large family, and heaven forbid she put a toe out of line. Until one night of shockingly un-Breanna-like behavior puts her into a vicious cyberbully's line of fire—and brings fellow senior Thomas "Razor" Turner into her life.

Razor lives for the Reign of Terror motorcycle club, and good girls like Breanna just don't belong. But when he learns she's being blackmailed over a compromising picture of the two of them—a picture that turns one unexpected and beautiful moment into ugliness—he knows it's time to step outside the rules.

And so they make a pact: he'll help her track down her blackmailer, and in return she'll help him seek answers to the mystery that's haunted him—one that not even his club brothers have been willing to discuss. But the more time they spend together, the more their feelings grow. And suddenly they're both walking the edge of discovering who they really are, what they want, and where they're going from here.

Review: The Song of David by Amy Harmon

The Song of David The Song of David
By Amy Harmon
Series: Law of Moses #2
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

She said I was like a song. Her favorite song. A song isn’t something you can see. It’s something you feel, something you move to, something that disappears after the last note is played.

I won my first fight when I was eleven years old, and I’ve been throwing punches ever since. Fighting is the purest, truest, most elemental thing there is. Some people describe heaven as a sea of unending white. Where choirs sing and loved ones await. But for me, heaven was something else. It sounded like the bell at the beginning of a round, it tasted like adrenaline, it burned like sweat in my eyes and fire in my belly. It looked like the blur of screaming crowds and an opponent who wanted my blood.

For me, heaven was the octagon.

Until I met Millie, and heaven became something different. I became something different. I knew I loved her when I watched her stand perfectly still in the middle of a crowded room, people swarming, buzzing, slipping around her, her straight dancer’s posture unyielding, her chin high, her hands loose at her sides. No one seemed to see her at all, except for the few who squeezed past her, tossing exasperated looks at her unsmiling face. When they realized she wasn’t normal, they hurried away. Why was it that no one saw her, yet she was the first thing I saw?

If heaven was the octagon, then she was my angel at the center of it all, the girl with the power to take me down and lift me up again. The girl I wanted to fight for, the girl I wanted to claim. The girl who taught me that sometimes the biggest heroes go unsung and the most important battles are the ones we don’t think we can win.

Tag Taggert and Moses are very unlikely friends, but friends non the less. From the start of Moses story we were warned this was not a beautiful story, but it was his. That can be said for Tag as well, and the milestones that Moses has overcome were just as abundant for Tag. The Song of David follows Tag after the conclusion of Moses's story. It took a moment to catch up seeing as how Tag and Millie are the momentum of this sequel, but it starts out from Moses perspective. The unique delivery of this story through recorded tapes was creative and absolutely perfect. It gives the appearance of a Moses story, but I really ended up learning the recent relationships of Tag, Millie, and Henry. Amy Harmon likes to offer stories that are raw and gritty. In order to feel the depth and intensity of her story lines you have to follow her characters through the trenches. Which is the best way to describe my experience in The Song of David. Tag and Millie were an uncommon match, but it was bitter sweet to watch the two come together. I am overcome with awe when I read Harmon's stories, because it is much more than the words she puts on the page. It is carefully crafting every detail and experience to make the most of every opportunity available in the story. As with Law of Moses this sequel will packed one heck of a punch, and with such an unpredictable author it was nothing I had anticipated. This will be the conclusion of Moses and Tag's stories. It will wrap them up nicely, but not without some soul crushing heartache. What is a story from Amy Harmon without ripping your heart out of chest, cracking it open with a spoon, and velcroing it back together. I find myself in such a conundrum after finishing Harmon's stories, because of the complexity of her conclusions. Nothing is sweet and simple, and it will take an unraveling of emotions to come to her ending. So to Tag an Moses it has been quite the adventure, and while I wish we had more time I know it is time to close. Thank you Amy for giving us stories that we build an breakable connection, and find ourselves unable to ever forget.

About the Author:
CD Reiss Profile

CD Reiss is a USA Today bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn't pick up she's at the well hauling buckets. Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master's degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels. She's frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn't ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood. If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

Review: An Unforgivable Love Story by B.L. Berry

Title: An Unforgivable Love Story
By: B.L. Berry
My Copy: Ebook from Author
The BookWhisperer's Rating:

Love is patient.
Love is kind.
Love is UNFORGIVABLE.

She wanted to forget her past.
He wanted to change the course of his future.
She was everything he never knew he needed.
He became her unexpected.
Everything was perfect.
Until ...

This review is going to be hard for me to write because I want to tell you guys everything that I felt while reading this amazing book and I want to hash out all of the details and tell you why I loved one character and why I hated the another character but I can’t because it would ruin your entire reading experience. I want to afford you the same opportunity that I received and let you feel the excitement, heartbreaks, and surprises that I felt without knowing anything about the plot besides that it deals with love.

An Unforgivable Love Story is a wonderful book that I flew through in days because I just couldn’t get it out of my head.  At the end of each chapter, I wanted to sneak a peak at the next just to see if I could figure out what was going on because Berry can write a story that wraps you up in all of the chaos that comes with loving someone.

There are four (mainly three but we get a bonus ending POV) major sections to this book that are told by three of the main characters, one character that I didn’t even know existed until their section came up.  *UNEXPECTED PLOT TWIST* Each section was beautifully written so that you felt the joy of falling in love, the sincerity of building a relationship, the struggle of keeping it alive, and then comes the kicker…that is all I can say (but I want to say so much more but I can’t…IT’S KILLING ME!)

This is the kind of book that I can see people either really loving or not but I urge you to read it with an open mind and heart because not every love story is perfect – some are unforgivable.

Review: Her Fantasy Husband by Nina Croft

Title: Her Fantasy Husband
By: Nina Croft
Series: Things to do Before You Die #2
My Copy: Ebook from Netgalley.com
The BookWhisperer's Rating:

Security Company CEO Josh Slater put his life on hold when he said “I do” to protect a stranger. While his marriage was never meant to be real—he hasn’t even seen his wife in five years—Josh can’t shake the idea that he’d be cheating if he moves on. Now he’s a man with a mission: chase down his “wife,” get an annulment, and finally indulge in a little no-strings sex.

Heiress Alexia Slater entered into a marriage of convenience straight out of high school to gain control of her inheritance before her not-so loving family squandered the whole thing. She doesn’t want the marriage to be real—she’s fought hard for her independence—but that hasn’t stopped her from spending the last five years fantasizing about her gorgeous husband.

Then he shows up.

Josh wants an annulment. Lexi needs to stay married. When the chemistry explodes between them, there’s no stopping the battle of wills only one of them can win…

She’s had the fantasy, now it’s time for the real thing…

Nina Croft pleasantly surprised me with this book because I walked into it thinking that it was going to be a very common-themed story line and it wasn’t by all means.

Lexi is married to Josh but they are not even a couple.  It is a rouse so that she can maintain her inheritance instead of her dreadful grandmother and Josh agreed to it a long time ago for the payout.  However, with five years of legal but fake marriage
and a near death experience under his belt, Josh wants an annulment so that he can start living his life but Lexi won’t have it until she has passed the set age so she can fully be able to obtain her inheritance.

This book is a cute story about two people, who quickly got married five years ago and who hasn’t seen each other since, and the relationship that starts to build once they start figuring out who they are to each other.  But it isn’t a quick spark at first.  Josh really is frozen inside to the idea of love and especially the idea of loving his wife and Lexi, being herself, slowly start to thaw him out.

Review: The Raid by Keary Taylor

The Raid (The Eden Trilogy #0.6)The Raid
By Keary Taylor
Series: The Eden Trilogy #0.6
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Cities have become the most dangerous places on Earth, infested with thousands of Bane, and people must now survive in the mountains and wilderness. But ammunition and medicine are essential to survival and they don’t grow on trees. Eve, as an elite defender of Eden, must go on a raid with a small team into the city for supplies that will keep their people alive. But this dangerous world is evolving and the rules that once kept them safe are changing.

The Raid is a very short prelude to the start of Eden series. Keary Taylor is my newest addition to my list of favorite authors. Upon the start of the House of Royals series I just can not get enough of this author. The Raid is a very short glimpse at this new world of Eden, and it was just enough to tempt the pallet and entice you to crave more. Be on the lookout for the review of Eden to come shortly.

Review: Sweet Nothing by Jamie McGuire

Sweet NothingSweet Nothing
By Jamie McGuire
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

When you think you know what's happening, you're only half way there.

It is enough to break any man: watching what could have been my future slip away before it was ever in my grasp. The possibility of losing someone I loved before she was even mine is something I never would have imagined—certainly nothing I'd ever wish on anyone. I went to her every day and waited. Waited for the impossible, for a sign, for her to look at me ... hoping sinners are granted miracles, too.
Just one glimpse of him was all it took. In the next lane, at a stop light, was the man I would fall in love with and marry. People talk about love that takes time—the kind you fall in to. We were more like a crash and burn. When our lives intertwined, I knew I would never be the same. He was the man I would cherish the rest of my life, who would father my children. In an instant our life together began, and in an instant it would end. The late nights; the excuses; the lies. And in the blink of an eye, it was like we never were.

As a Jamie McGuire fan reading Sweet Nothing was a no brainer. When I noticed that she was the co author I became reluctantly anxious to see how this book would turn out, because I had not had quite as impressive experiences with Teresa Mummerts titles. Josh and Avery's story was one of the bachelor falling for the girl that will force him to become the man he was always meant to be. They are both looking for something that they never believed they would find in one another, and in the most creative way.  The journey is an entertaining one, but in comparison to other McGuire titles I only found it to be rating mid line.

Excerpt

Caynan and I stepped outside into the unseasonably cool night, walking through the parking lot in silence. I pressed my key to disarm the alarm. My car beeped, its lights flashing and briefly lighting up the dark lot. I stepped up to my door and turned to face him. “Thanks again.”

“Stop thanking me.” His tone was cold and clipped as he handed me my backpack.

“Sorry. I just meant—”

He stepped into me, forcing my back against the door. He grabbed my cheeks between his hands and stared down at me. “I want to kiss you so fucking bad right now.”

My heart slammed against my chest as my voice came out a mere whisper. “Then do it.”

His eyes didn’t waver from mine. “This isn’t a date. I said I wouldn’t kiss you if it wasn’t a date.”

I dropped my backpack to my feet, the thud carrying through the silent lot. “I don’t care.”

He closed his eyes and dropped his forehead to mine. “Part of me wants to prolong this. Make you crazy for me.” His eyes opened and he looked me dead in the eyes. “But the other part wants to taste what I’ve been thinking about doing since the moment I met you.”

I couldn’t stop my hands from drifting up the front of his shirt, over the solid muscles in his abs and chest. I’d never felt anything so freaking amazing in my life.

He didn’t seem to mind my exploration because he groaned deep in his throat. His breath, a mixture of soda and mint, floated between us. “Go out with me,” he said.

“I’m out with you right now.”

“A date. Then you better believe I’ll kiss you at the end of the night.”

“Maybe I don’t want to wait until the end of the night,” I challenged. What the hell was I saying? It was as if I was in a trance. A Caynan-induced trance. And my words were not my own. My body was not my own. My thoughts were not my own.

His lips twitched. “Is that a yes?”

I paused, trying to maintain every last shred of dignity I possessed. But I knew with every fiber of my being that Caynan Abbott would ruin me for all others. And when he finally kissed me, not only would it be explosive, but it would be something no one else would ever live up to.

I was so screwed.
