Release Day Launch: Sweet Bliss by Helena Rac

Sweet Bliss release banner

Sweet Bliss_cover  About Sweet Bliss: From debut author Helena Rac, a sassy, sexy comic tale of second-chance romance and the many uses of icing.   Tessa loves cupcakes. They’re tasty and comforting, and they’ve made her bakery a success. Men, on the other hand, are unreliable jerks who are bound to break her heart. Even if they’re hot enough to melt her frosting.   Tessa is smitten with Luke after a less than graceful encounter on the streets of Chicago, and fate keeps reuniting them. She’s certain he’d be delicious in bed, but there’s just one problem: Tessa’s sworn off long-distance romances, and Luke lives in London. Besides, he’s proven himself to be bad news. Although Tessa’s sexy stranger swears to set aside his player ways after she carries out sweet revenge, she’s far too smart to believe in happily-ever-afters. Luke will need to use every weapon in his arsenal – including a spatula or two – to convince Tessa they’re meant to be together.

Exclusive Excerpt: “So, you’re looking forward to the week, then?” I ask expectantly, while the palm of my hand gently rubs the zipper-tight area of his pants. God, he’s so hard. I remind myself to not focus too much on what exactly I’m doing. Except thanks to the way his cock twitches ever so slightly every time I rub, I have trouble putting together a coherent thought. My thoughts are like a broken record, stuck on repeat. Giant cock … giant cock … giant cock… “Very much so,” he replies, the “so” stretching into a hissing sound. His eyes connect with mine, and I see the intensity that’s behind them. It’s like he’s thinking of not only what I’m doing to him right now, but also what he did to me in the movie theater. And, perhaps, what he’d like to do to me again? Yes please. What? No no no. Focus. His gaze is intimidating, nonetheless. It’s as if he’s undressing me with his stare. I suddenly feel exposed, flushed. I squeeze my thighs in response as warm tension builds deep in my belly. I’m reminded of the way his fingers made me feel, and I long for them to make me feel that way right now. Stirred by the thoughts that are heightening my arousal, I up the intensity and massage the firmness in his pants. He grows harder as he pulsates beneath my palm. I’m rewarded with a low growl, one that is audible only to me, given the buzz of the voices around us. God, that sound is so sexy. I need more of it; I want more of it. I want it loud. I can’t even remember what I asked or where our conversation was, I’m so caught up in our game. I’ve forgotten what the point of Step Three was to begin with. But a sudden laugh from the table brings me back from the land of giant cock. I take a quick look around and am glad to see that everyone is immersed in their chatter and not focused on us. Thank god. That was too close, and I’ve got a plan to stick to. “To things to look forward to, then!” I pull my hand away and take a sip of wine to hide the fact that my cheeks are blushing from the little preview that just played out so flawlessly. Luke stares at me with a stunned, almost pained expression on his face, like he’s confused and not quite ready for our game to end. Oh, the game has just begun, Mr. Callaghan.

Review: Forgetting August by J.L. Berg

Title: Forgetting August
By: J.L. Berg
My Copy: Ebook from Publisher
The BookWhisperer's Rating:

She can forgive, but can she forget?

Some days, Everly still thinks she sees him. In the food court at the mall, or in a car speeding past as the light changes. It only lasts a second, but when it happens, she slips back to a time when she was ruled-and nearly ruined-by August Kincaid. And it doesn't matter that she's moved on, that she's about to marry another man. In those moments the only thing she can do to regain control is take a deep breath and remind herself that August can't hurt her-because he's in a coma. Except that he's not anymore.

August is awake. With no memories, he sets out to solve the mystery of his lost life. He unearths a photograph of a beautiful redhead named Everly and knows instinctively that she's the key. But when he finds her, the August she describes is more monster than man.

Tortured by the thought of having hurt her, August wants only to become the man Everly deserves. As the new August emerges, Everly glimpses the person she first fell in love with. But can she trust that this August is real? When the final secret of their shared past is revealed, one of them will make a choice that changes their future forever . . .

Forgetting August is one of those books where even after finishing it you still are reeling from the emotions that it has bestowed on you.  I seriously felt everything throughout the course of this book.  At the beginning, I loved Everly and Ryan together.  He was so sweet and kind to her and it is exactly what she needed after learning about her past with August (needless to say that I hated August.)  Then the dice rolled and while I didn’t hate Ryan, I felt like maybe Everly and Ryan were good together but not great (at this point I still didn’t like August, but I didn’t hate him.)  And then it all changed – I wanted Everly and August together to have the life that they deserved to live and I felt so excited about this but scared at the same time because surely this couldn’t be a HEA so early on in the book.  Then the dice rolled again and everything changed and every emotion was felt while worlds were ripped apart.  This definitely kept things interesting, not knowing who you were voting for to succeed in Everly’s heart.

I will admit that at first, I did not like Everly.  She seemed very wishy-washy and I felt like she made bad decisions constantly.  But I will admit that my view of her changed the farther along I got into the book.  You start to realize that she is just as lost as August and even though the birdcage is open, she can never fly out and just be (referencing her tattoo.)  Everly is torn between two worlds, two men - she loves Ryan for the ability to be her safety net, everything she has ever needed and never had growing up. But she also loves August because deep down he is her one true love and the soul her heart yearns for. So this is what we, as the readers, do; we long for both, we cheer for both, and we hate for both.

All these twist and turns have me sideswiped and the ending has left me with a craving of more.  I need to know what is going to happen!

Cover Reveal: On Solid Ground by K.L. Grayson

OSG_FrontCover

About On Solid Ground: June 5, 2008 I made a mistake of epic proportions. Moving home was an easy choice because I knew that I had to make things right. I had hoped to win back Harley’s friendship, but I never imagined that I’d win her heart … or the heart of her son. Now that I have, I’m never letting them go. They’re my life, the reason I breathe. We’ve worked hard to get where we are, and we’re finally standing on solid ground. Or so I thought … *** Tyson’s ex-fiancé wasn’t supposed to move back to St. Louis … that wasn’t part of the plan. And she sure as hell wasn’t supposed to start working with him. I trust him—at least I think I do—but when secrets are being kept and things start to unravel, I’m left wondering if I made a mistake. I allowed myself to fall in love with the only man to ever break my heart. And now I’m afraid he might break it again … This is a Harley and Tyson Touch of Fate Novella and can be read after book #1 or book #2 but should not be read as a standalone.

K.L. Grayson resides in a small town outside of St. Louis, MO. She is entertained daily by her extraordinary husband, who will forever inspire every good quality she writes in a man. Her entire life rests in the palms of six dirty little hands, and when the day is over and those pint-sized cherubs have been washed and tucked into bed, you can find her typing away furiously on her computer. She has a love for alpha-males, brownies, reading, tattoos, sunglasses, and happy endings…and not particularly in that order.

Review: The Blood Scion by Nazarea Andrews

Title: The Blood Scion
Series: The Scion Legacy #1
By: Nazarea Andrews
My Copy: Ebook from Author
The BookWhisperer's Rating:

I was just a reporter, trying to stay ahead of my student loans. I knew the rules, and I followed them.
I thought I knew how the world worked—humans lived their petty little lives in the safety of the sun. We loved and fought and—when the sun sank—we scurried behind our walls and lived in fear. That is when the monsters came out to play.
And even in the safety of the sun, we knew who ruled us.
The Houses. And their Scions.
Everyone knows the great Houses and their Scions—they are feared and loved and hated and envied. They are the gods who walk the shadows and rule all of our lives. They are salvation and death.
And somehow, I am one of them.

I don’t even know how Nazarea Andrews does it.  How she dreams up these vivid worlds that contain unthought-of danger, a unique level of paranormal, intense love, and absolute awesomeness, I will never know.  I just wanna jump inside her head and take a peek one day but then I am sure my tiny mind would explode in all of her brilliance.  It brings me joy that I have found her and labeled her one of my favorite authors.

Did I love the novella before this? Yes! Did I love The Blood Scion just as much? No! *SCREECH* WHAT? Yeah, I said it right.  I didn’t love TBS as much as I loved The Scionless House, I loved it more and for so many reasons.

First, I loved it because Nazarea Andrews wrote it.  It is like pure gold.  How she writes both Farley and O’s point of view shows what a tremendous author she is.  In the first book we really only got to know O – we learned the history of the house and the history of the last Scion.  In this book we get so much more.  Farley is introduced and man is she fantastic.  She is badass to the core.  Finding out that she is being summed by O’s sire, Farley flees to her brother Winston’s house (she still is badass though.)  From this point, Farley learns a lot about her past that she didn’t know.  This new knowledge brings her to the Raven’s house where she becomes their Scion, a hard job. It also doesn’t help that sexy pants O is her sworn protector and in general a badass as well.

Now without giving away anything that will ruin your fun in reading this amazing book, I am going to stop right there and give some more praise to N.  I know this is going to be an amazing series filled with dark twist and turns that will keep me glued to the pages.  I also know that these two characters, Farley and O, are going to be nothing short of fantastic.  I am already rooting for this forbidden love between the two of them and for them in general.  I want nothing more than Farley to succeed because I am already attached to her.  I also want O to be happy because I like his character.  He has become more dimensional in this book than just a Blade or protector.  There is also Sulla who makes me happy for an unknown reason.  And then to top it off, there is this well thought out, original story that just flows from the pages.  The only thing else that would make this better is if I had the next book in this series.

Review: Perfectly Imperfect by Harper Sloan

Title: Perfectly Imperfect
By: Harper Sloan
My Copy: Ebook from Publisher
The BookWhisperer's Rating:

Mirror, mirror ... who's the fairest of them all?

I still cringe when I hear that line. A fairy tale that had girls pretending they were the fairest, the most beautiful, and the most entitled. A fairy tale most couldn't grow out of turned my haunted childhood memories into a living nightmare. Girls who grew up believing that pile of garbage became the meanest of all 'mean girls.'

And those mean girls were right - it was a line meant for all the beautiful people in the world - and I knew the answer would never be me.

The women with long legs, flat stomachs, and perfect chests.

The type of women Kane Masters gravitated toward.

Well, that's definitely not Willow Tate.

No. That will never be me.

Because I'm completely imperfect.

And ... I hate myself.

I have no idea what Kane could possibly see in someone like me when he could have them.

Poor Willow has had a tough beginning and it doesn’t get better when she becomes an adult.  This book is filled with treacherous events that continuously bring Willow down into a self-loathing level.  Just when she feels like it is time to shine, she gets knocked back down.  Lucky for her, Kane is right beside her to pick her up and dust her off.  From here is a whirlwind of romance.  Kane knows immediately that Willow is perfect in every way and fights to build her self-confidence so that she can shine bright.  It isn’t easy though.  Life isn’t easy.

Kane finds that building Willow back up isn’t the only fight they take on.  Harper Sloan threw a dark secret into the midst and it took me a while to figure out what clues was set before me.  This secret isn’t a secret Kane’s secret that he can tell.   While it has everything to do with him, it has nothing to do with him and it start creating a rip in their relationship.  I have to give a hand to Harper for when this secret is exposed, Willow handles it with grace.  Most authors could have taken another road and have their characters acted out in an unbecoming way.  However, Willow didn’t.

I think it is safe to say that I liked the main characters Willow and Kane.  I liked them together as a couple even more.  I also liked Kane’s bodyguard Cam and his love for romance novels.  It just made me laugh.  Willow’s two friends and Kane’s friend Mia rounded each character out for the best.

Now there are some characters that I didn’t like, and we aren’t supposed to like.  But every time their names appeared on the page I just wanted to get far away from that page as possible.  I knew that they were going to do harm and it just hurt my heart for Willow and what brutal punch she was going to take next.

The synopsis of this book intrigued me.  A beautiful man falls for an imperfect woman who doesn’t see how beautiful she truly is.  Honestly, isn’t this what we all want?  It doesn’t matter how beautiful you are, you always see that one flaw that makes you feel imperfect and to find someone who sees that imperfection and finds it beautiful, well that is just winning at life.  Before the book begins there is a small note from the author.  I encourage you all to read it first.  For those who struggle with their hatred of their flaws, know that you are not alone.  But also know how beautiful you are.
