Review: Silver Wolf Clan by Tera Shanley

Title: Silver Wolf Clan
By: Tera Shanley
Series: Silver Wolf Clan #1
My Copy: Netgalley Ebook for Review
BookWhisperer Rating:

Loving him will be legendary...if she can survive it.

What happens when monsters turn out to be real? One summer night while camping in the woods, Morgan Carter finds out in a big way. A tall mysterious stranger, Greyson Crawford, risks his life to try and save her sister from the vicious wolf attacking their camp. When he’s bitten and disappears into the night, Morgan can only assume the worst.

Greyson shows up a year later, and he’s a different animal altogether. His eye color shifts constantly and the rumble in his throat sounds more animal than human. She hasn’t any idea where he’s been all this time, but a good guess as to what he’s become.

Grey is determined not to let the darkness of his new existence affect Morgan and the little girl in her care. He hasn’t been able to stop thinking about Morgan but knows he should stay away and let her live a normal life. That’s easier said than done, though. A new danger pulls him from the shadows to keep her safe, and he’s no wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Can she accept what lurks just below his surface? More importantly, can she survive him?

This was such a quick easy werewolf romance. Grey and Morgan's romance is a romance built over time, but the absence between meetings allow for a quick paced read. As a bonus you not only meet these two great characters, but you are also introduced to this Pact that promises many adventurous stories. There was no friction between mates, or drastic displays of emotions, but it was absolutely every bit the entertaining paranormal read. Great for an fast journey of love and supernatural.

Review: Ravished by Ayden K Morgen

Title: Ravished
By: Ayden K Morgen
Series: Teplo Files #1
My Copy: Ebook for Honest Review
BookWhisperer Rating:

When Tristan Riley drags Lillian Maddox onto the dance floor at Teplo, he intends only to protect his cover… at least that's what he tells himself. But the lovely Lillian would tempt a saint, and Tristan is far from a gentleman. Beneath the bright lights of the Vetrov family's dangerous club, the weary DEA agent finds himself captivated by the ballerina, coaxing them both into a reckless, erotic encounter.

But Tristan isn't prepared for the intense connection between him and Lillian, or for the fallout of their tryst. In a matter of days, their lives careen wildly off course, catapulting them both into a deadly game of hide and seek with the Vetrov family and one of Mexico's deadliest drug cartels.

Trying to keep his hands to himself while working alongside Lillian to stop Anton Vetrov's deadly new drug proves almost impossible for Tristan, but what choice does he have when being with her might get her killed? He should know: his entire family was murdered by people just like Anton.

When the stakes are raised and innocent lives are lost, will Tristan be able to let go of the guilt, or will he destroy his chance at happiness with Lillian before it ever truly begins?

Let me apologize in advance for the shortness of this review. Ravished was a good story in retrospect, but it should be approached with caution. If you are looking for a hot and spicy romance then this would blow off the charts. From the first interaction this is a combustible lusty novel, and they will literally sweat you out of your socks. Although, if you are looking for a realistic story line with an abundance of hot and steamy romance this may not be your story. Shortly into the story I found myself coming up short with the basic story, and questioning the validity of interactions and scenarios. This makes for one heck of a fantasy, but it is not likely to meet the expectations of those looking for a strong story line.

Review: A Pound of Flesh by Sophie Jackson

Title: A Pound of Flesh
By: Sophie Jackson
Series: A Pound of Flesh #1
My Copy: Netgalley Review Copy
BookWhisperer Rating:

Lose your heart to your new bad boy book boyfriend. Wes Carter - sexy, edgy, behind bars, with emotional scars as permanent as the ink on his skin, just waiting to be healed by love...

Fans of Samantha Young, Jodi Ellen Malpas, Jamie McGuire, Katy Evans and Prison Break will find this powerful love story utterly addictive and unforgettable.

Their love is forbidden. But won't be denied... Can true love heal the deepest scars?

For Kat Lane, teaching inmates at a New York prison is her way of upholding the legacy of her beloved father, murdered fifteen years ago. But when new student Wes Carter walks into her classroom, she's shaken by the strength of her attraction to him. Carter is as handsome as he is dangerous, as mysterious as he is quick-witted - and he ensures people keep their distance. Yet vibrant Kat bypasses his defences and challenges him to reveal the real man behind the intimidating reputation. As their emotional barriers crumble, their inescapable but forbidden feelings cannot be ignored. But will Kat's discovery of Carter's role on the night her father died force them apart...or bind their hearts for ever?

A Pound of Flesh is a tale of loyalty, redemption and all-consuming love against the odds, introducing an irresistible bad boy hero...
The description suggests that you lose your heart to a bad boy, and that was about spot on as a description can get for a story. I can't say that I really found A Pound of Flesh a relative story to myself, but it is one of those heart felt journeys that will mark you.  Wes and Kat have had very different lives, but their journeys have brought them in and out of one another's lives just at the right times. First at a moments glance to ensure that Kat's safety, and then again when it is the right time for love to rock their world. I was impressed with the literary references, and the symbolism between the written works and their own story. The extremely  careful attention to detail creates this story so vividly that I could see the story play out in my mind as though I was the innocent bystander.  This is a story of inspiration, and just simply about the ability to overcome. Wes has had options, but always chosen the rough roads for his past. With the bright future just within his reach; he will need to make a choice without letting his past define him.  Kat on the other hand has spent years trying to overcome the  scars of her past. With a promise looming in the shadows she is reaching deep to find the strength within to move forward, and finally keep her promise. In both cases they are striving for the strength within to overcome, just as Wes was present in the exact moment to save Kat as a young girl they will now be thrust into one another world again, because only together will they find the strength they are both seeking. I was very impressed by the sophistication of this novel, and the extremely talented display in this story.

Review: Taking What's His by Jen McLaughlin

Title: Taking What's His
By: Jen McLaughlin
Series: Shilling Agency #4
My Copy: Netgalley.com
The BookWhisperer's Rating:

One explosive device was all it took to turn Holt Cunningham from ass-kicking Marine to IT technician. Hell, he's still not over it. So when the cute little strawberry blonde at the bar asks him to kiss her, Holt can't resist the temptation of a sexy distraction. Before he knows it, she's blown his mind...and then skipped out the next morning.

Lydia Thomas never expected things with Holt to go quite that far, but oh, it was worth it. After being far too good for way too long, she was ready to be bad. Except that there's that tiny detail that Lydia kept to herself-Holt just spent the night doing naughty things...with his best friend's little sister.

One night isn't nearly enough. But with his friendship on the line, how far will Holt go in order to claim what's his?

Okay, when the opening letter from the author states this: “This one goes to all the Whovians out there.  And if you’re not one yet…what are you waiting for?  Join the dark side.  We have cookies, bowties, and fezzes.” I know that I have a great book in my hands.  And I did have a great book in my hands.  *Just a little side note: I have mad love for Doctor Who and this book was all about it’s nerdiness.  It brought me great pleasure and joy to know that someone else loves the show just as much as I do and had their heart ripped out with Ten and Rose were separated by a wall with a parallel world dividing them.  If you don’t know Doctor Who yet, I highly recommend it.  It is the most brilliant thing I have ever became addicted to. *

I was nervous at the beginning of this book because it started off getting straight to the point - Holt and Lydia leaving the bar together with an agreement of just one night and nothing else.  At this point, I didn’t know the characters but slowly Alberts introduces them and they are quite brilliant.  Both amazing in their own ways, these two are a match made in heaven.  Sweet Lydia brings calmness to the hectic world of Holt and Holt brings a bad (but good) edge to Lydia’s life.

I really enjoyed reading this book and getting to know more of the Shilling Agency’s characters.  There was one perfect part of the book (besides the Doctor Who talk) that was poetic and really wrapped up the ending so nicely; “If you knock, I’ll let you in.”  What a powerful way to end a great book.

Review: Changing His Game by Megan Erickson

Title: Changing His Game

The BookWhisperer's Rating:

He controls the game, but she’s rewriting all the rules…

Marley Lake is no stranger to awkwardness, but getting caught watching a dirty GIF by the company’s hot new IT guy exceeds even her standards. That is, until she realizes he's as turned on by it as she is. But with a big promotion on the line, she refuses to let her current dry spell be her downfall. Maybe.

Austin Rivers has no business lusting after the irresistible editor of Gamers Magazine. He's a secret partner in the business—and technically Marley’s boss. One look at that GIF, though, and he’s ready to install a whole lot more than just software…as long as she never finds out who he really is.

But reality’s not as virtual as it seems, and when Austin’s identity jeopardizes Marley’s promotion, he has to change his game or risk losing the only woman with the cheat code to his heart.

I wanted this book so bad because I loved the thought of this nerdy kind of love happening between Marley and the new IT guy…and the fact that she gets caught watching a dirty GIF (It’s just funny!)

While there were a lot of things that I like about this book; for instance, Marly was a great character, her brother was hilarious, and Austin’s relationship with his best friends daughter – they were all great.  But then there were things that kind of threw me off.  And that was basically the relationship that Marley and Austin had.  Austin seemed so cold and Marley was so friendly that they just seemed like an off pair.  Yeah, Marley got Austin to laugh a little while they were together but he always seemed so uptight.

It was hard for me to see a relationship for them.  I felt that there was no connection.

Where the fuck is that little she-devil?

Zo pointed toward the dance floor, addressing his employer’s unvoiced question. “Under the ball.”

Noah saw her clear as day and dancing way too close with someone who might soon be leaving the club with a limp. He blew out a breath. She knew better than this, yet she still tested the limits set up for her protection.

A restraining hand on Noah’s arm paused him mid-stride. “Boss?”

Noah’s eyes widened at Zo’s hand. Immediately, the younger man’s hand fell away, and he wisely stepped back. Even in the dim light, Noah saw embarrassment tinge Zo’s face.

“I, um. Excuse me, Mister Adams, but I can’t let you go over there,” Zo said, swallowing the fear his boss evoked.

“Let. Me?” Noah pointed at himself and straightened to his impressive six feet and five inches. “And who’s going to stop me?”
