BookWhisperer's Rating:

Sometimes, the rabbit hole is deeper than expected . . .

Alice Reeve and Finn Van Brunt have tumbled into a life of secrets. Some secrets they share, such as their employment by the clandestine organization known as The Collectors’ Society. Other secrets they carry within them, fighting to keep buried the things that could change everything they think they know.

On the hunt for an elusive villain who is hell-bent on destroying legacies, Alice, Finn, and the rest of the Society are desperate to unravel the mysteries surrounding them. But the farther they spiral down this rabbit hole, the deeper they fall into secrets that will test their loyalties and pit them against enemies both new and old.

Secrets, they come to find, can reveal the deadliest of truths.

!!!A MUST READ!!!

I had the release day countdown ticking in my head until I could get my hands on this book – that is how amazing that I knew this story was going to be.  And, it did not fail me.

It blows my mind how well Lyons can take all these childhood favorites of mine, twist and turn them into either characters that I love or despise and then build the most creative world around them.  I cannot tell you how wonderful the first book was and the second book is just as amazing.  The situations that Lyons puts these characters in are intense, thoughtful, dangerous, loving, and all around kick butt.

I would have to say that the most beautiful part about this series (of course, besides the wonderful world the Lyons created) is the love between Alice and Finn and the heart-breaking separation between Alice and the White King.  My heart is still fluttering from the amount of love in this book and the dedication each one shows to the other.

It is also still skipping beats from all of the intense action in this book.  For me, it feels like Lyons has planned out this wonderful series to the absolute best.  No part is dull. There was not a time where I skimmed or skipped. I soaked up all of Alice and Finn’s world into my core and lived everything with them.  Their world was my world and I can’t wait to get back to it. I will have to start another release day countdown in my head until the third book in this series is released.

Again, this world is brilliantly thought out and brought to life with Lyon’s amazing mind and writing skills. Please give this series a try because I highly doubt that you will have no other feeling than love for it.

Blog Tour Review: Ember by Rachel Van Dyken

Title: Ember
By: Rachel Van Dyken
Series: Eagle Elite #5
My Copy: Ebook for Tour Review
BookWhisperer Rating:

I am a Killer. A Rapist. A Monster.
I know only pain and survival.
That is until the Cappo's sister walked into my life.
And changed everything.
She's a light who makes my darkness darker, her smile makes my heart turn to ice, and I can't escape the fear her seductive looks instill--knowing it's only a matter of time before I fail--again, and take her for myself.
This is the story of my redemption.
But it's not pretty...I died, and now I'm alive, but not living, breathing but not surviving. I am Phoenix De Lange, son to a murdered mob boss, estranged brother, horrible friend, monster in the making, newest leader to one of the most powerful families in the Cosa Nostra.
And I will have my vengeance.
Or die trying.
I am Phoenix De Lange.
Death is all I know.
Until she offers me a piece of life--I can't resist taking.

The Eagle Elite series is my favorite of all the mafia novels I have come across. From the start it has been one action packed thrilling ride slightly wraps up one story while dropping you in the middle of another two steps from the landmine. This book was truly a test of talent. After spending so much time portraying Pheonix as the villain Rachel successful conquered the grueling task of twisting the imagery to lead us into another powerful romance. Bee and Pheonix neither one have had a easy life up until now, and Pheonix is trying his hardest to change his spots. I am an absolute sucker for the villain turned victim, and his story is the genuine article. Raised at the hands of a monster he has learned how to survive even at the cost of his own sanity. I think it is only right that you see him find light at the end of the tunnel. It is only right that Bee  discover she can find a home that she has always dreamed. Not only with Pheonix, but that this family that runs deeper than blood can be one to her as well. This is anything, but an easy read. I see some sensitive readers having an issue with the past Pheonix has lived, and Bee acceptance and willingness to overlook it. My personal opinion of the story is that Rachel has taken a very touchy and questionable topic, and wrapped it into this powerful and dark realistic story proving that love can be found anywhere. I love the raw and gritty story, so this was absolutely not a problem for me. I love this series, and just can not say enough, about this wonderfully talented author. If you want to learn more just jump back to every review from the previous titles in this series we have read them all.

When I was fourteen years old, I killed for the first time. That day I learned cruelty wasn’t only within the walls we had just escaped.

We are the Portland Street Kings – A family forged through loyalty not blood. To get through this life of broken dreams alive, we’ve become hard, uncaring and merciless. We do what must be done to keep our family safe, we will harm those who stand against us.

We have it all, feared and respected by those on the streets. Then she collided into my world, and with her came demons from my past, back to haunt us all.

Sophie Davis is an incredible author with a wonderfully creative imagination and captivating voice. If you have not had the pleasure of experiencing her wonderful style for action and dramatics just take a little chance on the first book. It's okay when you finish book four, or five if it is out before you have finished, you can tell me just how right I was with this suggestion.

Review: Driven by Fate by Tessa Bailey

Title: Driven by Fate
By: Tessa Bailey
Series: Serve #5
My Copy: Ebook from Publisher
BookWhisperer's Rating:

Francesca “Frankie” De Luca always pays her debts. Even when it means stepping inside Serve, the sensuous Manhattan club that caters to particular adult desires. For Frankie, it's a taste of something she's always wanted, and never received. Until a sharply dressed Brit orders her into his room, and instructs her to undress before delivering the carnal punishment she so desperately needs. Then he offers Frankie a deal she can't refuse—and the only thing she owes him is submission...

As I sit here at my laptop, I have no idea what kind of world I stepped into and just experienced.  Tessa Bailey always knocks books out of the park and she did it with this one as well but it was completely different than the other ones that I have read.  Frankie and Porter were a little rougher, a little dirtier, took things a little farther than normal and it was a ride!

Porter was all kinds of dirty, like off the charts dirty.  I haven’t read that kind of character from Tessa ever.  Yes, normally her male characters are dirty-mouthed and all alpha like but Porter was so much more.  She paired Porter with a wonderful character Frankie who couldn’t keep her mouth shut if she tried and the best part was that it tried Porter’s patience.

I loved that Frankie refused to take charity, that she was sassy, and every once and a while, she would make Porter (the hard Brit) smile.  In fact, she turned his world around and he didn’t even expect it.  I love it when the world spins on its axis!
