Chaysing Dreams
By: Jalpa Williby

Life…secrecy, deceit, danger…No, no! Run, escape!

“Run!” Her inner voice is shouting. She has to run faster! She’s about to get caught! No, no! She has to get away. Please, she must escape! “Run faster!”

As long as Tess Sanoby can remember, she has always had the same nightmares, where the girl in her dreams is running for her life with an unknown force chasing her. Each time, right before the girl is caught, Tess awakens, shaken with fear and confusion. Who is the girl? What do these dreams mean?

Getting through the growing pains of high school with her best friends Jack and Kylie, and then being accepted into her dream college, Tess is excited to start her life of independence. There, she meets the mysterious trainer and mentor, Chris, and she instantly feels a strong connection with him. Unfortunately, Chris wants nothing to do with her. Although Chris continues to give her the cold shoulder, his overprotectiveness and the occasional slips of sensitivity confuse Tess. Not understanding Chris or their relationship, she is on a constant emotional roller coaster with him. Could her best friends be the stable force that she desperately needs?

Unfortunately for Tess, the more she tries to connect the missing pieces of her life, the more obscure her past and future appear to her. To make matters worse, she realizes she has fallen hard for a man who may be her worst enemy. As passion ignites between the two, she can’t help but surrender her heart and soul to him.

Tess is unexpectedly exposed to a world of secrecy, deceit, and danger, causing her to be running for her life, chased by the unknown. Can Tess escape and save not only herself, but also her loved ones? Or, will she be caught, leaving her no choice but to face her worst nightmare?

Chaysing Dreams is the ultimate love story, full of suspense, friendship, betrayal, tragedy, and sacrifice. In this epic tale, you will laugh and cry with Tess--a story full of twists and turns, keeping you guessing until the end.

Review: Hunted by Sophie Davis

Title: Hunted
By: Sophie Davis
Series: Talented #3
My Copy: Ebook from Amazon
BookWhisperer Rating:

In need of a distraction from her best friend's betrayal, Talia jumps at the chance to pack up and head to Washington, D.C., to have a purpose once again. She is tasked with administering the annual Talent Aptitude Tests, analyzing the children of the nation’s capital to identify those with powers. She knows that the Mandatory testing laws are controversial, but is still shocked by the protesters lining the streets of the city, and the curfew imposed upon its residents. These add fuel to her own misgivings about the Agency and its Director, the man who raised her.

As if Talia doesn’t have enough on her plate with that, the Director assigns her a task that will expose his dirtiest secrets. She soon learns that it isn't the children who are tested she needs to be concerned about; it's the ones who aren't. And when she encounters a face from her past, Talia must confront her toughest decision yet. Following her heart will put Talia and those closest to her in mortal danger. But the consequences of doing nothing are inconceivable.

The one bright spot in Talia’s new assignment is having her boyfriend, Erik, by her side. Because not only is Erik a source of comfort, but he is also as determined as she is to uncover the secrets behind the mysterious illness still plaguing her. Day after day, Talia never knows when she might be overcome by one of her unexplained seizures; she must pierce the veils of secrecy covering their origin, before someone decides she knows too much.

Life altering choices will be made. Loyalties will be tested. When the war begins, which side will Talia choose?

Hunted is definitely the heart breaker of this series. Even with the discovery of Donovan's betrayal this book proves worse. Toxic true identity is becoming clearer and clearer with each page, and the truth is still just over the horizon. Absolutely everyone in this young girls life has lied. There is not a single person that has ever been honest with her; even Eric proves to have secrets. While these secrets will not change the undying love, or change the readers interpretation of his character he has not been laying everything on the table. It has been a bit of a roller coaster through this book, and I was left without resolution, but the glimmer of hope for the final installment. This is an incredible series. Sophie Davis is a favorite for The BookWhisperer, and her series is one that I will exuberantly recommend to fellow readers. ~BookWhisperer Reviewer Jax~

Countless Classics Review: The Call of the Wild by Jack London

Title: The Call of the Wild
By: Jack London
My Copy: Amazon.com
BookWhisperer's Rating:

First published in 1903, The Call of the Wild is regarded as Jack London's masterpiece. Based on London's experiences as a gold prospector in the Canadian wilderness and his ideas about nature and the struggle for existence, The Call of the Wild is a tale about unbreakable spirit and the fight for survival in the frozen Alaskan Klondike.

The Call of the Wild is labeled as a classic and I could see why after I finished the book.  Buck has a wonderful life, patrolling the land of his owner and following the kids around until one day he follows the wrong person.

At first, I really was having a hard time getting into the book solely based on the fact that I wanted nothing bad to happen to Buck.  It was hard to read the struggles that Buck had to endure.  But the best thing was how Jack London really made me love, connect, grieve for Buck who is a dog.  A DOG! Usually, I get attached to a character, a human being, while reading a book but I was immediately in love with Buck.

Throughout this book, I read the all of the horrid thing that happen to Buck and I honestly lost hope for him.  All I could think about is how was Buck going to preserve not knowing how humans truly work?  How in the world will he ever learn to trust after the man in the red sweater?  How will he survive?  Amazing enough, Buck struggles just like us humans.  Bad things happen, some people are unkind and cruel, and life is a struggle constantly without any reprieve.  But amazing, he survives, he learns to trust and love again, his life becomes better, and he finally learns the true meaning to his being, a wild animal.

Review: As Hot As It Gets (Out of Uniform #10) by Elle Kennedy

Title: As Hot As It Gets

Series: Out of Uniform #10

BookWhisperer's Rating:

Sea, air, land, the bedroom...this SEAL is always in command.

An Out of Uniform Story

After watching his teammates settle down one by one, Navy SEAL Jackson Ramsey is ready to say goodbye to the single life. He’s even met a woman who intrigues him, challenges him, and turns him right on—Mia Weldrick, the funny and beautiful gardener he can’t wait to get to know better.

Except Mia isn’t interested in dating him, which means it’s time for Jackson to unleash his Texas charm and do some serious wooing.

With a teenage brother to raise, two jobs, and, frankly, a complete disinterest in sex, Mia has no room in her busy life for a six-foot-five SEAL with a naughty streak a mile wide. But one hot kiss from Jackson has her imagining all the dirty ways she could fit him in.

It isn’t long before their no-string fling transforms into something more. As desire unearths emotions and deeply buried secrets, Mia has to decide whether to give love a chance to grow, or let it slip it away.

I read the short story A Little Bit Of Hot, which goes with the tenth installment of Out of Uniform.  It is a short little side book of all of Jackson’s failed, set-up dates and up to the time he meets Mia and realizes that out of all of these dates he has been on, she is the first woman to spark his interest.

Like all Out of Uniform books, Jackson was sexy, alpha male and Mia was a strong, independent woman. Mia is raising her 16-year-old brother and working two jobs, she doesn’t have time for sleep let alone have time for a relationship but that doesn’t deter Jackson.  He uses his Texas charm to win her over and agree to just one date.  From there, a relationship slowly starts to build.  Both learning secrets of each other’s past gives an insight to why Mia is so hesitant to commit to Jackson and why Jackson is hides his bedroom behavior.

Again, like all the other books, there is more to this plot then the smoldering scenes.  Both Jackson and Mia have problems that they need to confront, learn from, and grow from.  It is great to see two characters that can lean on each other to do so.

Review: Tempted by the Soldier (Falling for You #2) by Nicolette Day

BookWhisperer's Review:

When one touch isn’t enough, why resist?

Road trips are supposed to be fun. Or, at least, full of hot sex. For photographer Lilly Grayson, the fifteen-hour drive to her friend’s wedding with Nate Jennings will be neither. Not that Nate isn’t sexy—the man is six-foot-three-inches of mouth-watering Marine. But Lilly’s been there, done that…and he walked away. Now it’s time for a little payback. The kind that’ll make a man desperate for a taste of what he can’t have.

And Nate wants a taste—so badly that he can barely keep his hands on the wheel. But the scars and ghosts of his last tour still haunt him. He can’t give into temptation, not this time. Lilly deserves a whole man—one who can love her the way she deserves to be loved, even if she doesn’t believe it can happen. And that can’t be Nate. Not when he’s leaving again in two weeks, and this time, he’s not sure he’ll return…

Jackie read the first book in this series and really like the story.  It took me about half way though this book to realize that it was the second book in the series (I completely missed out on the first) but honestly, it all flowed very well to me.  I didn’t have to read the first book to make true sense of the plot that was brewing in Tempted by the Soldier.  Day gives you the background of Lilly and Nate’s time together in the first book and here I sat, reading, loving every bit of their hatred/lust for each other.  I heart relationships that start off with lust and then turn to hatred with a small side of lust, and switches back and forth between the two (if the book is written right and this one was.)

Nate equals sexy, hands down.  His mission is to pick up Lilly, whose flight is delayed, and get her to his brother’s wedding; a road trip that tests all of their limits and I mean all of their limits.  Lilly’s plan is to seduce Nate until he realizes what he walked out on.  Nate’s plan is to ignore Lilly and keep his hands to himself.  The moments that they hated each other, I loved.  The moments that they wanted each other, I loved.  But what I loved the most are the moments where they got to know each other because they are stranded with each other in the eye of the storm.  Nate realizes that Lilly is not a princess as he originally thought.  Lilly finds that Nate is battling PTSD and discovers that Nate is trying to save Lilly from being another causality around him.  These realizations deepened both characters to the readers but also each other, making a start of a solid foundation for a relationship.

Review: Talented by Sophie Davis

Title: Talented
By: Sophie Davis
Series: Talented Saga #1
My Copy: Amazon Freebie
BookWhisperer Rating:

When Talia Lyons was just a child, her parents were murdered before her eyes. Offered a choice between accepting their fate and exacting revenge, Talia trains to become one of the country’s deadliest assassins in order to kill the man responsible for their deaths: Ian Crane. Luckily, Talia was born with a gift- the ability to read and influence the minds of others. At sixteen, Talia is poised to graduate from the McDonough School for the Talented, where she learned to control her abilities. Now there is only one obstacle standing between her and the retribution she craves... Talia herself.

Her greatest asset may also be her undoing; while a formidable weapon in the field, Talia’s talents prevent her from both shutting off the mental connection she shares with her questionable boyfriend and blocking out the thoughts of a beguiling fellow recruit. But Talia can’t afford to have the feelings and distractions of a normal teenage girl, when her life is far from normal.

She must regain the single-minded determination that has brought her this far, or it may cost Talia her life when she finally faces Crane. And even after being molded in to a weapon of war, she’ll still have to find the strength it takes to pull the trigger.

If James Bond and Sookie Stackhouse had a love child with a yearning for vengeance, her story would be TALENTED: an adventure about powerful teenagers who aren’t afraid to embrace their fears and fight for what they believe in.

Where have you been hiding???? This was just one of those books that I had picked up along the way. I was in no big rush at starting it, and when I began was a little nervous about what I would find. The description had prepared me for a story a little scifi, and a little action. The best way that I can describe what I actually found in this story is a post apocalyptic story with an intense twist. While it was not the end of the world per say; it was the end of the world as we know it. Talia is a loner and unique character. Even in a world of unique abilities; she is different. Tal's world is far from anything we know, but it was creative and easily imaginative with Sophie Davis's amazing talent for detail. I was engross almost immediately by this story line and the characters. I loved the relationship between Tal and Donovan, as well as, her relationship between her team. As the debuting novel of this series I expected this book to set the stage for the series of books to come. Therefore, the constant building was not unexpected. As the action begins to unfold, and the story takes a bit of a twist I was excited to say that the books to come will be anything but uneventful. Talented is an incredible start to this story where everything is not what it seems. I can not wait to see where the series will go, and what is in store for this cast of incredible characters. ~BookWhisperer Reviewer Jax~

Review: Exposure by Iris Blaire

Title: Exposure
By: Iris Blaire
My Copy: Ebook for Honest Review
BookWhisperer Rating:

She’s the sexiest secret at East Park University.

Rylan Willow is the top model for East Park Exposed, the university’s underground and insanely successful erotic magazine.

Her friends know her as Evan Cosette, a biochemistry major with a flawless GPA.

East Park Exposed has kept Evan’s tuition paid. All she has to do is keep up the naïve school-girl disguise when she’s on campus and her secret is safe, her two worlds separate.

Until Dallas.

When the magazine runs a co-ed shoot to broaden readership, Evan’s partner is a gorgeous and disgustingly brilliant grad student. Evan doesn’t know how much of Dallas Whitley she’ll be able to handle, especially when he wants to study with her outside the studio. She promises herself that she can just be friends with Dallas. He has a girlfriend, after all. And Evan needs to focus.

She can’t when the co-ed printing brings sales through the roof.

She can’t when her photographer wants to crank the heat for the next issue.

Every steamy shoot leaves Evan gasping for breath, her true feelings for Dallas clouded by their camera-charade. But the more time she spends with him in the real world, the more she risks someone finding out the truth about her.

She needs to decide.

Who gets Dallas—Rylan, or Evan?

This story will melt you with it's heat and intensity. Exposure is about a young woman that is using photographic pornography to pay her way through college. Evan is desperate to keep her career entirely separate from her life, but what she find is that this may be impossible. I am sure that this novel would probably have very controversial reviews. Some would love it while others that deem this lifestyle unacceptable would judge it accordingly. I personally enjoyed this story very much. It was an
experience to say the least, and an eye opener to understanding these particular characters situations. Evan and Dallas provide a romance that almost melted me in the steam each altercation offered. I must caution readers if you are not looking for erotica, because in my opinion this most definitely meets every criteria.
