He’s got one shot. Better make it naughty…

Micah’s new living arrangement with her best friend is quickly becoming unbearable. Not because Tomas isn’t a good roommate. When they’re alone, he shows her his sweet, loyal side. It’s just that he shows the rest of his parts to half the women in town. If she can’t scrape together the money for her own place soon, witnessing the aftermath of his late-night carousing is going to break her heart.

Then again, if it’s going to break anyway, maybe she should just go ahead and make a move on the man she’s loved since high school. And risk his rejection a second time.

It hasn’t been easy for Tomas to share space with the one damsel he can’t bear to see in distress. To have her within easy reach has been torture. His foster mother’s words echo in his head: a classy girl like Micah deserves more than the likes of him. But lately Micah’s been rattling his cage. If she does it one more time, she’d better be ready for the animal she awakens.

Unfortunately for him, Micah’s hot little hands are already wrapped around the bars…

our thoughts finl

Such a hot little read.  If you don’t have a lot of time but would like to just read a little and finish a steamy book in an hour, I recommend this one.  Yes, it has a very common plot that most romance books have but lets be honest, you are going to read it for the internal fight they have with each other and the hot moment when they realize they cannot hold back any longer.

What really surprised me was Tomas and just what he does to Micah.  I don’t think I was expecting the book to take the turn but it did and my mouth dropped.

Review: Devil’s Pawn by Elizabeth Finn

Title: The Devil’s Pawn

By: Elizabeth Finn

My Copy: Ebook from Author

BookWhisperer Rating:

four books

A common enemy. A secret untold. One dark and handsome man determined to despise. One inexperienced, innocent, shy woman swept into a life she cannot control. Both pawns in a torturous game that will bind them together or tear them apart . . . forever.

When Ashton is left orphaned after her parents are murdered, her life becomes a hell she could never have imagined. Left to fend for herself, and responsible for a debt she doesn’t owe, she is swept into a life as a gentleman’s escort at a private men’s gaming hall. Her new manager makes it abundantly clear he doesn’t appreciate her inexperience, innocence, and shyness. On the contrary, he despises everything about her.

Derek can be “difficult,” she’s been told. And however dark and handsome he may be, he terrifies her in a way that chills her to the bone, but leaves her begging to understand him. As they are pulled along together, more secrets and threats than either one could ever conceive are revealed, and a common enemy emerges. This enemy will stop at nothing to bring Derek to his knees while using Ashton as the greatest pawn in his torturous game.

Will Derek be able to let down his shield of cold, harsh emotion before it’s too late? Will he be able to sacrifice himself to save Ashton, or will they both be destroyed by the secrets of their pasts?

our thoughts finl

Everything that you read about this book being dark, gritty, and harsh is completely true.  It is not like Finn’s other books, it is a whole new world.

Finn presents us with this intense love/hate relationship between Ashton and Derek.  He hates everything about her and because he shows his hatred to her, with no filter, she hates him right back with the same intensity.  I wanted nothing more than to punch Derek for being such a jerk face in the beginning.  He is one of those characters that you hate, I mean HATE.

Finn wrote Ashton’s character to where I felt everything she felt.  I was terrified in the beginning when she was first meeting Derek.  What transpired in that room made me absolutely nervous for her well being and I was sick about what was happening but I still needed to continue to read for that small hope of light that might come later on down the road (side note: that light is far, far away.)  The book starts with Ashton in a room with multiple men and they ask her to strip so that they can judge her appearance to see if she is ‘whore-worthy’.  The things they say about her, the things they do to her, makes you feel disgusted but you find that she has to do this, so she must.  What happens after this is just a cluster of craziness!  You must read it!

I am just going to say that this book is dark but there is love in it; don’t let the darkness deter you from trying.

Oh and Elizabeth Finn, if you are reading this, please write another book…super fast!

Review: The Fighter’s Block by Hadley Quinn

Title: The Fighter’s Block

By: Hadley Quinn

My Copy: Ebook from Author

BookWhisperer Rating:

three books

The entire fourth floor of Donovan Kemp's apartment complex houses only MMA fighters, dubbing it "The Fighter's Block." Growing up in an abusive home put Van on the fast track to nowhere, but a caring fight club owner took him under his wing as a teen and shaped him into a fighter with integrity.
Now in his mid-twenties, his life changes dramatically when he steps in to help a beautiful girl in a scary situation with her boyfriend. Surprising to Van, she ends up going home with him. He's now on the fast track to something else: falling in love. Danielle is the type of girl that men only dream about, but the two quickly fall hard for each other in equal measure.
When the ex boyfriend proves to be nothing but trouble, Van has a tough time deciding between protecting Dani with legal measures or just bashing the guy's face in himself. The harassment escalates, eventually pulling Dani and Van apart, and Van finds himself feeling desperate enough to do something drastic.
If being thrown in jail isn't bad enough for Van, an undercover investigator seems to be getting a little too close to Dani, the fight club he grew up in could be turned upside down with scandal, and the friends that he trusts with his life might not be who they say they are.
So much for finally discovering the little morsel of happiness he'd been deprived of his entire life...

our thoughts The Fighter’s Block start out with some incredibly powerful intensity. An average good ol’ boy coming across a damsel in distress. That was the first chapter of this book, and it effectively reels you into the story. Such a powerful start gave me an expectation for the story to come. Raw potential pours out of this situation, but I unfortunately found some issues with the remainder of the stories deliver. It is evident early on that the style of writing needed some improvement. Readers thrive on spontaneity, but it is important to create the scenario in such a way that readers will be able to able to process the logic and understand through the character. This was obvious once the story began rolling. The second slightly larger issue that I found early on was the delivery of Quinn’s story. Point of views through out The Fighter’s block were random and mixed causing it to be difficult to follow. Once I had a firm grasp on the this delivery it was an expected transition. The overall story was one that had me captivated, and hanging on the next turn of events. This author has some incredible potential, and I would love see the steady progression of talent in future novels. It would be wonderful to see her excel and overcome all obstacles to create an work of art.

He's Gone Rogue
Ex-Navy SEAL Rock Babineaux’s job is to get information, and he’s one of the best in the business. Until something goes horribly wrong and he’s being hunted by his own government. Even his best friends at the covert special-ops organization Black Knights Inc. aren’t sure they can trust him. He thinks he can outrun them all, but his former partner—a curvy bombshell who knows just how to drive him wild—refuses to cut him loose.
She Won't Back Down
Vanessa Cordova hasn’t been the team’s communication specialist
very long, but she knows how to read people—no way is Rock guilty of murder. And she’ll go to hell and back to help him prove it. Sure, the sexy Cajun has his secrets, but there’s no one in the world she’d rather have by her side in a tight spot. Which is good, because they’re about to get very tight…

our thoughtsEVEN BETTER THAN I IMAGINED!!!! I absolute love Julie Ann Walker. Her stories are always addictive and packed full of heart pounding action. The Black Knights Inc series is a mix of romance and suspense that will hook you immediately. We have been through four amazing journeys, but I have to say that I think Thrill Ride has been my favorite. Watching each and every operator come to find their match is exhilarating.Although, I was definitely partial to this particular novel, but that is entirely due to Rock’s character that magnetized my interest from the start. On a slightly softer note, I was also anxious to learn more about Vanessa with her intriguing position in this group, and just how she folds into her unique role in a biasly male profession. Every character proves entertaining to watch in their roles and relations amongst the entire Black Knights Ops. Male or Female they all carry a very devotional bond that makes each and every character uniquely special. Rock and Vanessa being my favorite led me eagerly into this story, and I was not disappointed. The concept of one of my dedicated characters becoming a rogue was a very new adventure for this crew. It was wonderful to see the lengths at which this group would go to protect one of their own. Just as Walker readers have come to expect this installment was packed full of raw emotion and action packed adventure. Having finished the story in its entirety in 24 hours shows the captivation and dedication fans will experience when unintentionally speeding through this story. It is always an absolute to pleasure to delve into a Black Knights journey with this talented author style and pizzazz. I can not wait for the next book, and I have a hunch what is next. It should be just as entertaining and brilliant as this one has proven to be.

Trace Victors lived her life as a cold Hit Woman; she loved the game of the hunt, but this would be her last hit. She spotted hit number fifty through her scope. The man stood tall and well built, from his dark head and wide shoulders, to his long, firm legs.Turning his head, his face came into clear view of her scope. His profile showed a definite handsome face—a semi-bronze tan, firm jaw line and dark, wavy hair. Trace held her breath while his intense, green eyes glared back at her.
The hunter became the hunted as the game turned on her. Only this target played by different rules. She found that the chase would be short and possibly deadly, because target number fifty wasn't a normal man.
She didn't know it yet, but The Beholder was about to change her life...

our thoughts WHY SO SHORT?? While even though everything about this short story fits perfectly into its small size I was sad to see it come to a close. I shocked out how wonderful the story was built. Never knowing who to trust, and what is actually happening was quite an interesting rollercoaster. The suspense and intrigue was built perfectly in this mystery. I remained on the edge of my seat throughout the length of this story, and my only wish was that it would continue.  This only succeeded in building my desire for more from this author. I can’t wait to see if I can find more.

Series: Bombay Assassins Series Book 1

My Copy: Ebook from Amazon

BookWhisperer Rating:

YOU CAN'T PICK YOUR FAMILY...
Death by Chocolate is her favorite dessert. And those knitting needles aren't just for craft projects. To most people, Gin Bombay is an ordinary single mom. Then again, they don't know she's from a family of top secret assassins. Somewhere between leading a Girl Scout troop for her kindergartner--would nooses count for a knot badge?--and keeping their puppy from destroying the furniture, Gin now has to take out a new target.

BUT YOU CAN PICK THEM OFF
Except this target has an incredibly hot Australian bodyguard who knows just how to make her weak in the knees. But with a mole threatening to expose everything, Gin doesn't have much time to let her hormones do the happy dance. She's got to find the leak and clear her assignment...or she'll end up next on the Bombay family hit list.

our thoughts Fun Story! Gin is your average woman, or at least as average as a single widowed mother can be. Oh and the fact that she just happens to be a member of The Bombay family; a long and legendary league of assassins. While not your typical assassin she pays her dues in hope that she will live to see another day. I was expecting something far different than what I found in these pages. Gin is quite the black sheep, and would love nothing more than to retire from the life of an assassin. Though she is well aware that there is only one way to retire from this particular line of work, and it requires a resting place six feet under or with the fishes take your pick. The story is overall a very fast and easy read. I would love to say that it concluded without a hitch, but it was slightly lacking in character development and detail. As the romance moves forward in the story it seemed to be rushed and undeveloped. This is definitely a story that readers will follow leisurely.

Because if Jordan ever regains his memory of that night, both of their lives could be in danger.
our thoughts finl
Serendipity is absolute eye candy. This has to be on of the best covers that I have seen this year. While incredibly simplistic it is very eye appealing. The story that accompanies this beauty is also just as amazing. While I did hope for a little more intensity in a story wrapped up in organized crime syndicate it was very enjoyable and easy to love. The list of ironies were long as fate seems to play a hand in the uniting of these two characters. I was impressed by the abilities of this author to build up a story with incredible detail and intrigue. The twist and misleading leaves suspense around every corner just wanting for you turn the page. This debut novel has sold on the continuation of this series. Be prepared for a suspenseful ride that will prove well worth every minute.

Love. Power. Control.

The lure of having it all is strong, and when 17-year-old Seth is given the opportunity, how can he say no? And why should he? With nothing to lose and everything to gain, Seth is an easy target for the evil that invades his soul.

But love is a powerful force, and despite everything, Dani knows that the boy she fell in love with is hiding somewhere behind the darkness in his eyes, and she’s not about to give up so easily.

Time is running out and instead of having control, Seth is quickly losing it. Dani must rely the truth in her heart to pull the dark force out of Seth. But will the power of love and faith be enough to conquer evil? Or is it too late for both of them?

One boy.

One girl.

One 1500-year-old soul determined to come between them... permanently.

our thoughts

First I would like to thank Diana Murdock for allowing me to be sucked into her wonderful world of writing. I would have never picked out a book like Souled, but I am glad that I had the chance to be able to read and review it. It was a new spin on a plot, buying a soul, that really made Souled an interesting read.

The first half is from Seth’s POV and you get to know him and his love for Dani, his loyalty to Justin, and the pressures that are rolling around in his head. He is, in general, a good guy but with all these pressures is what pushes him into buying a soul. A strive to be better, a want to keep Dani by his side, and a longing for his father to be home more often. But once the sell is made, you start to read the changes that are happening in him. What I didn’t realize, until later, is that the italicized chapters between the chapters of the main characters have just as an important plot. You learn about the soul’s past life.

What I loved was that half way through the book, the POV switched to Dani. What a wonderful idea because now the reader can really feel how much all of this is hurting her and what she is willing to do to get Seth back now that she is realizing that it is no longer Seth in his body.

The final chapter (I KNEW IT WAS COMING!) is told from Alyx’s POV; a new friend to the group. When she finally realizes what has happened, the book ends, and I was left mouthing “OH NO!” (it was late, I didn’t want to wake anyone up.)

Want Some Swag?

Series: Thoughtless #2

After being caught in the middle of a love triangle which led to a devastating betrayal, Kiera pledged to learn from the mistakes she’d made. She was determined to never again inflict that kind of pain on anyone, especially the soulful, talented man who held her heart. But life offers new challenges for every relationship, and when Kiera’s love is put to the ultimate test, will it survive? Love is easy . . . trust is hard.

our thoughts finlEffortless blows Thoughtless clear out of the water. I know, I know you have to have one to have the other, but if I was having to compare this book was better. Effortless takes all of the incredibly wonderful aspect of book one, and mixes it up to offer an unforgettable story.  I love the reality of this story. Kiera and Kellan’s relationship has been anything, but typical. Although, who would expect anything ordinary out of a relationship of such intensity. Anyway, the point is that they have baggage. With everything that transpired in the first book there is no way that this story could continue without hiccups in the road. This is that story; with all of its disastrous hiccups and awe inspiring romance. I love this author style, and the creativity of her stories. Never underestimate the power of a dreamer, and that is exactly what Stephens offers in her books. The journey that continues in this second books smoothes out some of the rougher edges, and give readers hope for the future of this couple. Nothing is perfect, but the reality of needs in a relationship works against them until this crafty story of healing and nurturing puts on the road to recovery. I look forward to seeing what will come of for this story in books to come. This author will be a name to watch in the future!

Falling in love isn't always easy or pleasant. The intense and angst-filled story of Emma and Scott is a painful, gut-wrenching and exhausting portrayal of how hard it can be to let go...
Nineteen year-old Emma Harrington’s number one rule is; Never give your heart away to a man, no matter what. That lesson was learned early on in her life and she will never forget it.
Starting over in the USA, Emma starts college with her cousin, Ashley. She is finally free to do and live how she wants and no man will ever rule her decisions or emotions again.
That is until Scott Mason walks on stage…
Intense, bad boy Scott is the lead singer in a local and popular rock band. Ladies man and Ashley’s longtime friend, Emma is instantly drawn to him, even though he is everything she hates and needs to stay away from in a guy. He treats females like he does a cigarette; light it, use it, and lose it.
For her cousin’s sake, she makes an effort to get along with Scott. She soon discovers that there is more to Scott which makes him even more dangerous in her eyes. Underneath the façade of friendship; jealousy, obsession, fear and insecurities, fester and battle it out as she fights her attraction and history from repeating itself.
One thing she knows for sure is that if she breaks her rule, it may destroy her.

our thoughts finl

All the makings of an incredible story!!! Rocked Under was packed full of explosive chemistry. Emma and Scott will keep readers on the edge of their seat for the story’s duration. Emma is just your average every day girl, but her past has left her scarred and damaged. It is easy to feel yourself rooting for her happy ending. Scott is very much the opposite; with his intense personality he will not be easily anticipated. He reminded me of one Mr. Mattox from Beautiful Disaster, and I found several moments of déjà vu while reading this story. His bad boy personality is ever present, but I felt myself at moments concerned by the amount of altercations through the story. It almost seemed over the top at times, and could easily change the impression that readers conceive about his character. Hawkes storyline captivated from the first page, and she held my attention to the very end. Potential of this story is palpable, and I think with some creative editing it would have easily been a five star read.

Pamela just wants to reunite in the afterlife with her dead fiancé, Grady. Problem is, Grady was a secret agent, and his coded emails have infuriated both his employers and his enemies. They need Pamela alive. So, instead of her planned suicide, she is kidnapped by black ops agents, tortured by mobster warlords, hunted by a psychotic killer, and chased by zombies … all necessary evils in order to ultimately walk into the sunset with her true love.
This novella (approximately 28,000 words) is adapted from a screenplay written by the author. As such, it is best to let the story wash over you ... like you would watch a movie. As an added bonus, this version includes a twelve-chapter excerpt from the novel, After the Virus.

our thoughtsThis will a first for me. Writing a review about a book that would have been three stars until I hit the ending. For over half of the book I was hanging on every word, and thoroughly enjoying this story. I would have honestly reviewed with a three if this had continued. Then as if a totally different story, the second half or even last quarter of the book just seemed to fall off for me. When I reflect trying to determine just where this story went wrong I have to say it was almost immediately from the point that you realize it is a zombie story. I hate to say this because I have read Zombie books that I loved, but this story zipped right along wonderful until they attempted to transition to the conclusion. It was like reading a mystery up until we find ourselves in the middle of the zombie apocalypse. I hate writing negative reviews, and I always stand behind on respects for any author. Although, I have to say without a doubt that this story just doesn’t work for me. I even think if the story had been reworked, and a slightly different ending maybe it could have been better. With all of this being said I is easy to see the potential of this talented author through much of this story. I would be happy to read something different from this author, because I truly think with a different story she could be spectacular.
