About the Story:

Dangerous to be together. Painful to be apart.Savannah Colbert knows she broke up with Tristan Coleman for the right reasons. Most of all, to keep from killing him with her new vampire abilities. But try telling her heart. Now, lost in a sea of hostile Clann faces, Sav tries to come to terms with what she's becoming and what that means for her future. And that someone is doing their best to bully her into making a terrible mistake.
Tristan can't believe Sav won't even talk to him. If being apart is her decision, fine. Just don't expect him to honor it. But even as he prepares to fight for the girl he loves, forces beyond their control take them both in directions neither could have foreseen or prepared for.
A reckoning is coming…and not everyone will survive.

our thoughts finl

Savannah and Tristian’s story was left on a cliff hanger in Crave. With what appears to be a dead end we begin this still with on a sliver of hope that our beloved characters can find a way out of the this mess. With the Vampire Council and The Clann both aware of the recent developments between Savannah and Tristian it seems almost impossible that a future can exist. With their love on the line they are tested to the limits in this second installment, and I was anxious to get started. Unlike book one this story covers almost a years times in a slow, but stead pace. This commonly would prove to offer a struggle, but Darnell can create such an incredible story that readers will barely notice the length. The developments over this novel changes the direction of this story, and will continue to captivate readers. I can not wait to see what book three will offer, and just where this story will lead with it’s seemingly repeated DEAD END!

About the Story:

Susan Lismore, a staff writer for a local newspaper, has always been an easy go lucky person with little to worry about in her life. That is until her mother’s Alzheimer starts to take its toll not only on her mother, but on Susan also. To make matters worse, she’s faced with the loneliness of her life after the wedding of her friend, Tessa Worth. So many around her have found love, while she has sat by and watched with no success of her own in the love department. Her once carefree personality is put to the test with the trials of life and she finds herself failing miserably. That is until sexy Josiah Hunter makes appearance in Long Beach.

Josiah is an old college buddy of Cade and Rowan’s and after spending time in the Marines and in Afghanistan, he shows up in Long Beach for a long overdue reunion with the two of them. The gang hits their old stomping ground, The Launchpad, his first night back with the intention of throwing back a few beers and having a few laughs. Rowan quickly informs Josiah that Tessa has invited a friend along to hang out with him. Josiah puts little thought into it never thinking for a moment that the friend Tessa invited would be the one woman who yanks at his heart and body.

The turmoil in Susan’s life makes it difficult for her to find happiness, even after a night of passion with Josiah. When tragedy strikes Susan’s life, Josiah reaches out to comfort her, but the guilt she feels won’t grant him the access he’s looking for. Only the separation of miles reveals to them both that what they share is real, no matter what life has thrown in their direction.

our thoughts finl

“Triple Shot” contains chapters that switch back and forth between the two main characters Josiah and Susan. From the moment they meet, there is instant attraction on both sides. However, Susan refuses to give in while Josiah is ready to shake things up. And after reading this book, I would let Josiah shake things up.

Speaking of shaking things up, Riley adds to the plot by including Josiah and Susan’s friends that keep the book entertaining. All the characters messed well together and made this book and quick and easy read.

The only downfall (in my eyes) was the Susan was just too head-strong. She was set in her ways of not giving into Josiah’s advances or letting anyone into her life to help out with what was going on. I know it would have put a different spin on the book if she were to open up, but it could have put a more romantic spin on “Triple Shot” if Josiah had been able to be by her side.

Review: Diary of a Submissive by Sophie Morgan

Title: Diary of a Submissive

By: Sophie Morgan

Warning: Adult Erotica (Not for anyone under 18)

My Copy: Ebook from Publisher

BookWhisperer Rating:

three books

About the Story:

In Diary of a Submissive, Sophie Morgan candidly explains what exactly an independent, 21st century woman gets out of relinquishing her power and personal freedom in a submissive relationship with a dominant man for their mutual sexual pleasure.

In the wake of Fifty Shades of Grey, here is a memoir that offers the real story of what is means to be a submissive and follows Sophie’s story as she progresses from her early erotic experiences through to experimenting with her newfound awakened sexuality. From the endorphin rush of her first spanking right through to being collared, she explains in frank and explicit fashion her sexual explorations. But it isn’t until she meets James, a real life ‘Christian Grey,’ that her boundaries and sexual fetishism are really pushed. As her relationship with James travels into darker and darker places, the question becomes: Where will it end? Can Sophie reconcile her sexuality with the rest of her life, and is it possible for the perfect man to be perfectly cruel?

Daring, controversial, and sensual, Diary of a Submissive is filled with a captivating warmth and astounding honesty such that no one— man or woman—will be able to put Sophie's story down.

our thoughts finl

If you are feeling a little daring and want to read something that will seriously make you blush, this book is something you might enjoy. I felt a little dirty reading it; Morgan goes into great detail about her experiences, what she likes, what she has done, and how she felt the entire time while doing it. I blushed a lot; there are some parts that are pretty steamy. And, I learned a lot about a world that is Morgan’s passion…being a submissive.

There were also parts that really did put me on edge. The encounters Morgan describes are very graphic and may or may not be for some readers. This maybe the kind of book that some people can pick up and only get through half of it before they decide that it is just not for them.

Morgan basically takes you a walk through her childhood, to her first sexual encounter and then down to the nitty-gritty. Just a warning: if you read the synopsis and think that this book may not be fore you, then it probably isn’t.

our thoughts finlStephanie Nelson's debut novel Craved was a unique and exhilarating read. Gwen Sparks is a independent and strong character that quench readers desire for kick ass and powerful heroine. The storyline offers a wide array of supernatural characters with a storyline so intense that get wrapped up into the story. Sidelined with a love triangle between Gwen, Adrian, and Micah romance addicts will find themselves fall prey to "just one more page" syndrome. As a debut novel I found this to be a fantastic read, and excellent beginning for this amazing series. I can not wait to see what book two will offer. With the intensity that book one concluded I look forward to the guarantee book two will be an absolute must read. Craved is a BOOKWHISPERER RECOMMENDED READ!!!

our thoughts finl

Ava was just looking for a distraction when she came upon Derek. On vacation with nothing but forgetting on her mind; she is awestruck when she spot Derek walking solo on the beach below her balcony. What starts here is a romance of white hot chemistry that will carry readers through this short story at lighting speeds. Both main characters are scarred, but what they find together offers the light of hope for happiness. Both carrying reasons to forget leads them to a hopping night club where they will fall into one another's arms desperate for a release. What they find is far more than a night of forgetting, but rather someone that all of the past scars have been leading them right too. I love this story! My only complaint "I MUST HAVE MORE!!!!"

Synopsis:

The Greek gods are alive and well. But, unfortunately for the gods, the humans have all but forgotten their glorious existence…and this fact really pisses off the all-powerful, immortal beings.
Apollo, the Greek god of the sun, takes one look at the mysterious Terese Lafitte and knows that he wants her. Even in this modern century, a god takes what he wants. But Terese isn’t a mortal, not any longer. As a newly turned vampire, her attraction to Apollo is downright lethal because desire arouses not just her body, but also her bloodlust.
But Apollo likes a woman with bite, and now that he’s found Terese, he’s not about to let the little vampiress out of his sight or out of his bed. When Terese’s psychotic vampire ex begins to stalk them, Apollo knows that he will have to use all of his strength to keep her safe. Lucky for Terese, Apollo has more power than she could ever have imagined.
When you trifle with the sun god, you will get burned.

our thoughts finlMythology always seems to grab me in a book description. After following all of the Bound series I knew that I had to try this new series. Cynthia Eden continues her short story romances in Bleed For Me. Almost as if it was a continuation of the same old series with new characters. Bleed for Me is the first installment for the Loved by Gods series. The novella is a swift and intense romance that will be easily finished in one sitting.

More About the Story:

Sometimes the most vivid pictures go unseen...
When Kirstin Jones agreed to work with her live-in boyfriend, Mason, on a free-lance job for a wealthy client, she never thought it might destroy their relationship. But the client’s keen observations show her that she’s been little more than Mason’s shadow. Fed up with his insensitivities, she moves out. Weeks later, desperate to stand on her own, she accepts work with the same client once again. Only this time, the project requires Mason’s help. To obtain his aid, she must meet his terms. And what he wants is more than she can afford
Mason Montgomery is baffled by Kirstin’s claims that he never had time for her. While verbalizing his emotions has never been his strong point, he’s spent five years showing his love. He needs Kirstin more than he wants to admit. When she leaves him, he’ll stop at nothing to get her back, even if it means working with the client who twisted truths and tore his life apart.

our thoughts finlI've read many love stories, but was a uniquely refreshing first for me. Misunderstanding Mason seems to start in the middle of a story. This is not a lost love rekindling, but rather a romance going wrong. Just when the end is in sight Mason and Kirsten find they are about to make the biggest mistake of their lives. Even more importantly outside influences are building the wall between our main characters, and until they recognize the wolves in sheep's clothing their happily ever after will remain just out of reach. Misunderstanding Mason was a perfect name of the story due to it's mountainous misunderstandings woven throughout the storyline. Also an incredibly short story it will be easy to finish in one sitting.

More about the Story:

In the third installment of the Significance series, we begin with Maggie and Caleb in the clutches of a new enemy; the Virtuoso council. Not only do they have to deal with the consequences of taking the lives of the Watsons and the council attempting to take Maggie away to keep their precious Visionary safe, but they must deal with Marla as well. All are determined to undermine, control and use Caleb and Maggie's rare gifts for their own uses, some wish to destroy them entirely. Then Maggie's father and Bish are threatened but the council forbids the presense of humans. Peter and the family fight and stand beside them every step of the way to save Maggie's father, to keep Caleb and Maggie together when the corrupted council is so set on keeping them apart and to stop Marla and whatever she has up her sleeve. Then Maggie has the shock of her life when she discovers something about her real father. It may change everything for everyone. Stay tuned as the story continues.

our thoughts finlShelly Crane has captivated readers with her inventive and unique storyline in the Significance series. Maggie and Caleb are still struggling to find their happily ever after. The fued between Marcus and Calebs's families after their botched attempt in Accordance is far from over, and Maggie find herself face to face with her captures far sooner than anticipated with Virtuso Meeting underway. With tensions high and Maggie's new found status in question Crane will take us on yet another whirlwind ride. The pace of Defiance was much slower than that of earlier novels, but it will prove worth it in the end. I will definitely be continuing the ride in book four.

Review: Unwind by Neal Shusterman

Title: Unwind

By: Neal Shusterman

Series: Unwind Trilogy Book 1

My Copy: Ebook from Publisher

BookWhisperer Rating:

four books

More about the Story:

Connor, Risa, and Lev are running for their lives.

The Second Civil War was fought over reproductive rights. The chilling resolution: Life is inviolable from the moment of conception until age thirteen. Between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, however, parents can have their child "unwound," whereby all of the child's organs are transplanted into different donors, so life doesn't technically end. Connor is too difficult for his parents to control. Risa, a ward of the state is not enough to be kept alive. And Lev is a tithe, a child conceived and raised to be unwound. Together, they may have a chance to escape and to survive.

our thoughts finl

What a ride! I am in complete awe of the world that Shusterman threw me in and dragged me through. It blows my mind that he can think of a plot that consists of a world like the one that Connor, Risa, and Levi live in. How absolutely terrifying. In this world, if a child does not meet the parent’s expectations, is too bad, or considered a tithe to God, their parents can have them unwound. Technically, they will still be alive in another person’s body.

This book follows the lives of Connor, a boy who has done wrong and finds out that his parents have signed for his unwind. Risa, a ward of the state that has reached her full potential and is scheduled to be unwind. And Levi, the tenth child who was solely brought into this world for a tithe. It is a story about how these three lives intermingle and then disconnect, all while being on the run.

I loved the character Risa because she was the main constant in this book. She has a great head on her shoulders and is intelligent beyond her age. But Connor was my absolute favorite. In this story, you see just how much he grows into maturity and how he becomes a man.

I will admit that after reading this, I called my mom and told her thank you for not having me unwound.

Starved for Love Guest Post

What Does Love Mean?

I ask because I had to twist our human concept of love and fidelity to fit in succubus’ world. If a succubus has to feed from having sex, how can she have a relationship? I considered the idea of having her feed from only one lover but I imagine that eventually she’d drain him dry. It couldn’t be healthy for either of them.

An open relationship seemed like the best option but what kind of alpha male would share his female?

An incubus, of course. They’d understand each other’s sexual feeding needs yet be able to fulfill each other’s emotional aspects that their lifestyles lack. They wouldn’t see sex to feed as cheating, but it best be ONLY for feeding, otherwise all bets are off.

I really enjoyed creating this world and all its complex love rules between two people who just physically loyal.

Blurb:

After almost dying of starvation to remain faithful to a mortal lover, succubus Pia Blyton now shields her heart by feeding solely on men she won't fall for. The only trick is, to create energy to survive, she must achieve orgasm. At least that rules out bad sex with her three lovers. Too bad she's a sucker for falling in love.
When her demon lover doesn't arrive for their arranged rendezvous, Pia is forced to ask her vampire lover to step in before her energy becomes dangerously low. In return he demands a favor and Pia finds herself in the hotel suite of the mysterious Valerio Hunan, who seduces her with a devastating kiss. Too late Pia learns he's an incubus who wants to lure her into marriage—a marriage without love.
As an incubus used to bedding a variety of succubi, Val doesn't understand Pia's yearning for love. He needs a succubus wife to provide him with a steady source of energy. But he wants Pia for the passion and renewed interest in life she makes him feel. Can Pia convince Val that sex isn't just for survival and love is for more than the weak?
Excerpt:
Beeping my car unlocked, I went to the driver’s side.

“I don’t see why Hoel can’t drive us in my car.” Val folded himself into my VW Bug.

“Because Cooper likes his privacy and my taking you will be bad enough. Why do you need to meet my suitors?” I jammed my key in the ignition and started the vehicle, then kicked it into drive.

“Making sure you feed properly will fall on my shoulders. I want to meet the…flavors you prefer.”

He sat with his back to the door, his knee bent on the seat so he could face me. “Do you love him?”

I snorted, then glanced at him. His eyebrows were furrowed as he frowned at me. “You’re serious? Of course not.”

“But you care about him.”

“He’s food.”

“I’ve seen how you react to chocolate. Is he chocolate?”

More like macaroni and cheese but from Val’s expression I didn’t think that was the answer he wanted. “What are you expecting? If you want me to promise they mean nothing to me then I’m the wrong succubus to court. I don’t like sex with strangers. It hurts me on all sorts of levels.”

“So you do love him.”

“No!” I shook my head since he didn’t seem to understand the first time I answered this question. “I choose suitors who I won’t fall in love with, but I like them. As friends.” I rubbed my forehead. “This is complicated.” Of all the days that Val decided to tag along, I was going to see the suitor he’d disapprove of the most. Cooper was territorial and caring.

“It’s only as complicated as you make it.” He still frowned at me and seemed unhappier.

I wanted Val to see beyond our culture’s emotional boundaries. If I could open him to the possibilities of love, we might both get what we desired from this courtship. First, he had to trust me and I needed to earn that trust. “I was just going over to tell Cooper we had a change in schedule.” I poked him in the stomach. “Some incubus is mixing me all up.”

His scowl grew deeper.

Tell Me More:

It's been twelve years since Tru Bennett last saw Jake Wethers, her former best friend and boy she once loved.
Jake Wethers, sexy, tattooed and deliciously bad lead singer, and brains behind The Mighty Storm, one of biggest bands in the world, left Tru with a broken heart when he moved from England to America with his family when they were both fourteen.
Sent to interview Jake for her music column by the magazine she works for, they are both unprepared for the sparks that fly the instant they reconnect. Only, there’s a complication to their instant feelings for one another – Will, Tru’s boyfriend of two years.
Then Jake makes Tru a job offer she can't refuse - travelling the world with him and his band. But taking the job means leaving Will behind, and being on the road with the band means spending an inordinate amount of time with Jake.
Is Tru strong enough to resist the delectable bad boy who once held her heart so completely, or will she willingly risk it all for one night with the worlds most notorious womanizer?

our thoughts finl “When we’re good, we’re great. Jake. But when we’re bad, we’re fucking horrendous.”

Being the romance lover I am a sucker for happy ending, but the pristine untainted view of love is not always realistic. Romance authors typically show this love without all of the gray areas. Tru and Jake’s portrays soul mates with all of their glory. Just like the quote above this perfectly depicts this story in its entirety. I sped though this story, so quickly I was astounded to find myself at the end. Jake is broken and scarred from a life on the road, but when you include Tru he is the most amazing character full of depth and emotion. As a known womanizer it is hard for this young woman, even long time best friend, to accept that for her things will be different. As the story twists and turns readers will ride the highs, and trudge through the lows effortlessly.  The two have an explosive chemistry, and it seems inevitable that so much power will seek an outlet. Ultimately, Towle will offer your happy ever after, but it will not be without the visible scars. The reality of this story is that true love  can overcome, but it is not always with perfection. This is the second novel that I have read recently by this author, and she quickly taking her place among my favorites. Her writing style is fast and intense that guarantees devotion to the very last page. I anxiously await more to come.

Sometimes you just have to take flight.

A summer in New Orleans is exactly what Allie needs before starting college. Accepting her dad’s invitation to work at his hotel offers an escape from her ex-boyfriend and the chance to spend the summer with her best friend. Meeting a guy is the last thing on her mind—until she sees Levi.

Unable to resist the infuriating yet alluring Levi, Allie finds herself at the center of a supernatural society and forced to decide between following the path she has always trusted or saving a city that might just save her.

our thoughts finl

Truth time: When I first started this book, I thought I was going to be let down by the plot. Maybe it was just a little slow for my taste but then within a few tap on my Kindle, it got much better (okay, I’ll admit it. It was when Levi started to make more appearances that I started reading a little faster.)

I really had no idea where this was going at first but I am sure threw me for a loop when the plot started to unravel. Once Allie discovers what Levi is, you start to really learn more about him and his friends. It brought more spice to the plot and let you connect a little more with the characters (instead of them just being so mysterious.) Relationships start to form and action starts to build up and it kept me entertained until the end.

The first book left me wishing the second book was already loaded into my Kindle so that I could continue the saga. I guess I will just have to wait until January of 2013 to see how everything comes together.

our thoughts finlThe Kings of Charleston is a very inventive twist.. From the first few pages I really though this story would take a different direction, but I was shocked when the hints finally came together forming the story. The best conclusion that I can offer for my feelings is this story was good, but not great….
