About the book
When struggling waitress Melody Dylan gives a handsome, lonely stranger a simple gift she has no clue her life is about to take a drastic turn.
The stranger ends up being Clay Powers, a famous UFC heavyweight fighter. Clay’s large build and dangerous fists have always intimidated. People in his hometown keep their distance and Clay is fine with that. Everything changes when a new waitress at the local diner buys him a piece of pie on thanksgiving. Touched by the gesture when it’s obvious she can barely afford to survive, her warm smile and lush body churn up powerful feelings that leave Clay wanting more from her than pie.
Melody is running from her past and the small, country town of Garnet is the perfect hiding place. With an ex-husband after her and scars from her abusive marriage etched deep, the last thing she expects is to fall for a man who makes a living with his fists, but she can’t resist Clay or the tender connection they share.
Finding love in the most unlikely of places, the passion is undeniable, but Clay and Melody know their haunted pasts and unpredictable futures leave the odds stacked against them.

I loved this story. It is the kind of story that makes you long
for a kind of love that Melody and Clay have together. Both of their pasts are dark but yet they can
still see that the future can be bright, and it can be brighter with each
other. You like Mel’s character because
she is a simple woman that gets a chance to start again and you LOVE Clay’s
character because he is enamored with her from the second he lays eye on her.
You read this book wanting the best to happen for the both of them, but like
real life, problems come up and they must overcome them.

This was such an incredible story. On first notice the hot and steamy relationship between Mel and Clay will obviously have your attention, but I was awestruck by the amazing story that was included. Mel is a courageous and optimistic person that readers will thoroughly enjoy. While Clay is gruff and reclusive, but once that two characters combine they form a bond of perfection. These two characters are definitively broken and battered hearts, and readers will gobble up a story that offers these victims love and happiness.
This author has made a drastic impression on me, and I will be looking for more. Her writing style is blunt and and honest, but she creates the story in such a way that good or bad you can look away. Defying the Odds was an exceptional display of just what this author is capable of. BookWhisperer Recommended!!
