Sneek Peak Charmfall

I absolutely love the Dark Elite series by Chloe Neill. It is one The BookWhisperer favorites, and I am anxiously awaiting Charmfall that is due to be released January 3rd from Puffin Books. While ramaging around today I was delighted to see that first chapter post on Chloe’s website. Check it out here.

If you have not had the pleasure of reading this series I also included book cover and descriptions below.. This is a must read young adult paranormal fiction.

firespell  Description for Firespell (Dark Elite Book 1)

As the new girl at the elite St. Sophia’s boarding school, Lily Parker thinks her classmates are the most monstrous things she’ll have to face…

When Lily’s guardians decided to send her away to a fancy boarding school in Chicago, she was shocked. So was St. Sophia’s. Lily’s ultra-rich brat pack classmates think Lily should be the punchline to every joke, and on top of that, she’s hearing strange noises and seeing bizarre things in the shadows of the creepy building.

The only thing keeping her sane is her roommate, Scout, but even Scout’s a little weird—she keeps disappearing late at night and won’t tell Lily where she’s been. But when a prank leaves Lily trapped in the catacombs beneath the school, Lily finds Scout running from a real monster.

Scout’s a member of a splinter group of rebel teens with unique magical talents, who’ve sworn to protect the city against demons, vampires, and Reapers, magic users who’ve been corrupted by their power. And when Lily finds herself in the line of firespell, Scout tells her the truth about her secret life, even though Lily has no powers of her own—at least none that she’s discovered yet…

Description for Hexbound (Dark Elite Book 2)hex bound

Lily Parker is new to St. Sophia’s School for Girls, but she’s already learned that magic can be your best friend…or your worst enemy.

They say absolute power corrupts absolutely. Turns out, even a little magic can turn you to the dark side. That’s why Lily has to learn how to control her newly discovered paranormal abilities, on top of avoiding the snobs who think they run her school, nursing a crush on a cute sophomore with a big, werewolf-y secret, and fighting the good fight with her best friend Scout as they take on Chicago’s nastiest nightlife—including the tainted magic users known as Reapers.

Then Lily’s invited to a private meeting with Sebastian. He’s hot, powerful, and offering to help her harness the magic flowing in her veins in a way no one else can. He’s also a Reaper. Lily can’t hide her suspicions. But she’ll soon find out that the line between good and evil isn’t always clear…

charmfall_cover Description for Charmfall (Dark Elite Book 3)

High school can be a battlefield, but for Lily Parker, surviving at St. Sophia’s School for Girls is a matter of life and death…

Protecting Chicago from the dark side can be an exhausting job, especially when you’re a junior. So when the girls of St. Sophia’s start gearing up for Sneak, their fall formal, Lily decides to join in on some good, old-fashioned party prep—even if it means not giving demons, vampires and the twisted magic users known as Reapers her undivided attention.

But when a Reaper infiltrates the school, Lily doesn’t forget what she’s sworn to protect. She reaches deep into herself to draw out her magic—and finds that it’s gone. And it turns out she’s not alone. A magical blackout has slammed through paranormal Chicago, and no one knows what—or who—caused it. But Lily knows getting back her magic is worth the risk of going behind enemy lines…

This year they also released a compliation for Fire Spell and Hexbound titled Dark Elite.

About the book:

When a photo shoot ends in tragedy, Kira discovers her best friend, Lydia, has been keeping a secret. Knowing the truth, and accepting it, will change Kira’s life forever and thrust her into a world of ancient curses, magical objects, and savage enemies. What happens next will challenge everything Kira knows about her world, herself and the shape-shifting warrior she’s falling in love with. No longer the timid mouse her mother accused her of being, but a woman who finds the mental and physical strength to endure and survive.

Reviews Plate C.K. Bryant offers a debuting series that combines mythological and supernatural elements that create a intricate and fresh world.  Kira and Lydia are best friends with normal thought and concerns consistent with every other senior. Or so Kira thought until she discovered her best friend and brother are not from this world or human. Dedication and loyalty are in abundance throughout this book, and it is easy to see why these three friends are willing to risk there own lives for one another. The stage is excellently set for Kira to fit into Octavion and Lydia’s world. It also make is easy to understand Kira’s desperation to support and help them in there quest. Ophera was carefully crafted and easily imaginable. I had no problem seeing this world as though I was looking through the eyes of the characters. Ms. Bryant is a dedicated writer that will test your shock ability with her graphic novel. She will take her story that a cliff, and proceed without hesitation as her story drops readers from the deadly heights. I was very impressed with this novel, and the ability of this author. I definitely look forward to reading more from this series.

About the book:

She wanted to settle down.
But he was on his way up ...
A normal life? Bethany Miller has no idea what that is, but she wants it. After spending too much time on an ex-boyfriend only interested in pinning his crimes on her, she accepts a loathsome roadie job from her road manager father. Still running from her chaotic past, she meets an altogether new thing to avoid-a gorgeous brown-eyed man who seems about as far from "normal" as she can imagine.
Teetering on the edge of stardom, guitarist Tom Crowley makes music his number one priority now that his band's first major tour is underway. So why is more and more of his attention sidetracked by his less than friendly crew member? Can't a love life coexist with a life on the road? When Beth's vengeful ex escapes police custody, Tom's protective nature and attraction know no bounds-if only he can get Beth to stop running.

Reviews Plate Love’s Road Home is a dreamy romance. It is easy to fall in love with Beth and Tom. Tom is a rising country rock star, and Beth is the daughter of there manager. His southern drawl with lure readers into his intoxicating personality. Beth on the other hand is trying to recuperate from a disastrous relationship that almost ended with her a prison sentence. Working as a stage hand for Roadhouse was only temporary, and a means to hide from her shadowed past. When these character met is a like a tidal wave that will take readers by surprise. They compliment one another in every sense of the word, and readers will be silently cheering them on from the start. It was wonderful to see the change in her character as Tom helps her to overcome her dark past, and embrace the spark between them. The twist offering her a bit of the lime light was a perfect addition to the building story, and I fell deeper in love with Tom character for the adoration and pride that he takes from sharing a stage. This is a wonderful romance, and a I look forward to finding more from this author.

About the book:

Now that she’s settled in at Shadow Falls Camp, Kylie Galen’s determined to discover the extent of her supernatural abilities. But with a ghost insisting someone Kylie loves is about die, a rogue vampire on a murdering rampage, and her sixth sense telling her someone is watching her, Kylie’s quest for answers is quickly put on hold.

To make matters worse, just when she’s about to give her heart to Derek, a half-fairy, he starts pulling away. When Lucas, a werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past, returns, Kylie’s feels more conflicted than ever. Her weekend with her mom should have been the just the break Kylie needs, but it turns out to be her breaking point. Someone from the dark side of the supernatural world has plans for Kylie--and it'll take all her resources to get back to Shadow Falls alive...

Reviews PlateAwake at Dawn is book two of the Shadow Falls Series. This is a exhilarating series about a young girl’s journey to discover just who and WHAT she really is.  Book one introduced readers to a plethora of various character and supernatural talents. With her two best friends one a witch and one a vampire; Kylie is beginning to find a home at Shadow Falls. It is also to her benefit to have a very hot Fairy beating down the door. Even though a very hot Werewolf seems to occupy a lot of her thoughts. The story continues to become more twisted as Kylie discovers more talents that seem to point her in several different directions. As if her life wasn’t complicated enough strange things are happening around Kylie, and it seems see has captured more than a Fairy and Werewolf’s eye. Although, their purpose seems to be a lot more sinister.

The Shadow Falls books had me captured from the start. It is an exciting journey to follow, and I love the characters for all of the quirky and steamy charm. For a young girl like Kylie is wonderful to see her spreading some roots, and find a place that she feels at home. Although, even among misfits she seems to still have a borderline misfit quality. As a truly unknown species readers will never know what to expect. Awake at Dawn as broaden the horizons, and shed little light on what to expect next. With the plot thickening I can’t wait to see what is in store for this character.

About the book:

What would you do if a simple errand takes a deadly twist, turning you from cautious prey to dangerous predator?
When Darcy's outing takes a turn for the worst and tests her to the point of breaking, she struggles to maintain her humanity. Where loyalty and pack mean everything, she surrenders to the inevitable and only an act of complete trust can touch her. When all is said and done, with memories flooding her mind, Darcy holds tightly to the only thing that makes sense - it was all a dream. Or was it?

review plate Great start to a very action packed and powerful story. Without Mercy through you right into the middle of a story. After a few pages of details it is easy to catch up; discovering that Darcy is soon to be mated with a Pack alpha of the Mystic Wolves Pack. While exerting her independence she and the Alpha sister find themselves at the wrong end of a gun. An accepted friend of the pack has been playing his own game that is about to cost one of these girls their lives. The story is only 25 pages on my Nook, so this was an incredibly short read. The story offered in those few pages promises more great reads to follow.

About the book:

When Keri Daniels' editor finds out she has previous carnal knowledge of reclusive bestselling author Joe Kowalski, she gives Keri a choice: get an interview or get a new job.

Joe's never forgotten the first girl to break his heart, so he's intrigued to hear Keri's back in town--and looking for him. Despite his intense need for privacy, he'll grant Keri an interview if it means a chance to finish what they started in high school.

He proposes an outrageous plan--for every day she survives with his family on their annual camping and four-wheeling trip, Keri can ask one question. Keri agrees; she's worked too hard to walk away from her career.

But the chemistry between them is still as potent as the bug spray, Joe's sister is out to avenge his broken heart and Keri hasn't ridden an ATV since she was ten. Who knew a little blackmail, a whole lot of family and some sizzling romantic interludes could make Keri reconsider the old dream of Keri & Joe 2gether 4ever.

review plate

Exclusively Yours is compelling love story about a woman trying to make her dream of being a successful journalist a reality. When her future endeavors require her to visit the past to succeed; she is finds herself facing the biggest struggle of all.  Joe and Kiera were high school sweethearts, but with her sights set on glamour and glitz she makes a drastic decision to leave it all behind for her career. Without a second thought Kiera threw herself into a determined battle for honor in respect in the journalism world, but with Joe a best selling honor fiction author she knew it was only a matter of time before their paths would cross again. When Kiera's boss finds information on the couple's past she is desperate for an exclusive interview with the private author, and offers Kiera a ultimatum for her job.

Kiera is a down to earth girl that I find very entertaining. While she has learned to love the finer things in life from the big city; she seems to fit into the country girl aspects as well. She seems to be a genuine person, but being career driven has left her misunderstood by many. While others saw it as easy for her to pick up and leave; it was truthfully the hardest things she ever did but a necessary sacrifice for her dreams. I loved this character more and more as the story progressed, but was frustrated with her lack of realization of what she really has in front of her.

Joe on the other hand is dreamy and wonderful in every way. As a family man he is dedicated and protective, and as a business man he is straight and to the point. I loved learning more about his character, and seeing the ease of forgiveness. After the love his life walking away twenty years ago he was not bitter and resentful, but loving and trusting to the very core. This is the man of dreams that any woman would welcome with open arms. It was easy to comprehend the depths of Joe's good natured and loving personality after meeting his family. They are the real deal; with enough love to go around and their own fair share of problems but they have the loyalty that will allow them to overcome anything. They are the type of family that would make you crazy, but you could never trade them for all the world.

Kiera soon learns this first hand when Joe makes her a deal for an exclusive interview in exchange for a two week vacation with his whole family. To be a successful journalist sacrifices must be made, but little does she know in the woods surrounds by mud and mosquitos she will discover her true desires and something much more important than a promotion. Leaving her at a crossroads yet again, but with this second chance will she make the same choice.

About the book:

Sean Kowalski no sooner leaves the army than he's recruited by Emma Shaw to be her fake fiancé. Emma needs to produce a husband-to-be for her grandmother's upcoming visit, and, though Sean doesn't like the deception, he could use the landscaping job Emma's offering while he decides what to do with his civilian life. And, despite his attraction to Emma, there's no chance he'll fall for a woman with deep roots in a town he's not planning to call home.

Emma's not interested in a real relationship either; not with a man whose idea of home is wherever he drops his duffel bag. No matter how amazing his "pretend" kisses are...

review plateThis is my second read of the Kowalski series. Yours to Keep is the story of Sean which is the cousin to Joe and Kevin from book one and two. Sean has just arrived home from the army, and has plans for seeing around the world. When a woman arrives on his front step with an absurd story about pretending to be his fiancé; he knows that life is about to take a drastic turn. As a family man he is well aware the struggles to keep loved one safe. When Emma tells him that she is worried about her Grandmother his sympathy overpowers his logic. So begins a month long stay in Emma’s home as her Fiancé. Little does either of them know that fate may have bigger plans, and a pretend relationship just may have been the first door. This is a very quick and enjoyable read. With a powerful and smoldering romance that will have readers craving just one more page.

Review: Beg for Mercy by Shannon Dermott

beg for mercy

Title: Beg for Mercy

By: Shannon Dermott

Series: Cambion Book #1 (August 7th, 2011)

My Copy: Review Ebook from Author

BookWhisperer Rating:

four stars

About the book:

Everyone dreams of that first kiss. Of that magic moment when your lips finally meet those of that special person you’ve waited your whole life for. A little awkward, a little scary, a little hot and every bit amazing. We speculate that the whole world will shake and time will just stop. No one, however, ever imagines that kiss to bring Death himself knocking.

Sixteen year old Mercy Moore's life just got more complicated. The kiss that originally could have meant she would finally have a boyfriend now was the kiss that could have very nearly ended his life. A small detail her mother conveniently never told her will take her life for an abrupt u-turn. Dating, no love, was now completely and utterly impossible. And the boy well, that boy would never be the same.

But life, however cruel, goes on. Far too soon for her taste, Mercy finds herself at a senior party with the elite students of her school and her best friend. And of all things, playing a stupid game that could very well mean the death of someone in that small room. If it were not for her best friend, the hottest guys in school, and a small need to fit in, she may have been able to escape the disaster that was to come. Her worst nightmare, her personal curse, her very life, only gets dangerously worse.

review plate Beg For Mercy is a huge compilation of the supernatural world. Readers quickly learn that Mercy and Flynn are of different, but as the book progresses the number of different kinds of species is astounding. From the start I sympathize with Mercy’s character. She is young and maturing, and self out casted due to her fear of hurting another person. As a succumbus a kiss can be deadly, and with a mother that refuses to teach you anything about who you are Mercy finds herself in a very dangerous game.  It is easy to see the good natured and caring side of her personality, and a terrible injustice that her mother expected her to seclude herself in order to stay safe. The desire to be affectionate is a natural; the fact that her Mother expected her to be like a saint is frustrating and ridiculous. Mercy quickly changes all that when she plays a dangerous game of  “spin the bottle”, and followed with a embarrassing game of “Truth or Dare”. In one night she is able to discover that someway, somehow she has kissed a boy without killing him; and that she seems to have drew the attention of a couple boys at the same time. This begins the rollercoaster of emotion that encompasses Beg for Mercy. I don’t believe that I have ever read a book that introduced so many characters in one sitting, but I quickly realized that it was all necessary. With four objects of affection for Mercy alone it easy to understand the need for an abundance of characters. Mercy has quite a struggle in her hands with so many awesome guys to choose from. Luke, Flynn, Sebastein, and Paul all share one thing in common; every single one of them is in love with Mercy. What’s worse than having four guys all want you at the same time? Loving each one of them back, and not knowing which one you love the most. The author takes time to detail each one of these characters, and they are great it is easy to see why Mercy would love every one of them. With the obvious distraction of love, Mercy doesn’t realize that she has more important things to worry about like who is following her from town to town living missing women along the way. When Mercy finds herself captive by the last person she thought possible it will change the entire story. This is a story about secrets, mystery, and love. Mercy is an incredible character that will easily grab the readers attention. With such a delicate story this novel follows a much slower pace. I found myself wondering just where this story was taking me, and how she could be falling in love with another person. The conclusion wraps the entire story into a nice package that will guarantee fans for the remainder of the series. I look forward to seeing what the next book has to offer.

(August 2011)

My Copy: Review Ebook from Author

BookWhisperer Rating:

four stars

About the book:

Her entire life Sofia Moreno has dealt with her overprotective brothers. With three overbearing brothers always lurking, no boy would dare reach out to her. Luckily for Sofia the one boy she's got her heart set on has always been within reach: her brothers best friend Eric. Even though his loyalty to her brothers runs deep, Sofia knows there is only so much he can do before giving in to her.
Two years older than her, Eric Diego has always known there would be hell to pay if he messed with his best friend's kid sister Sofia. Through the years he watches as she blooms into a beautiful young lady right before his eyes. With teenage hormones raging and Sofia more than willing, Eric agrees to the unthinkable. A forbidden secret romance. Feeling emotions and a feverish passion that's new to them both, neither is ready for how quickly their romance spins out of control.

review plateEric and Sophia’s story has been building from the start, and it was about time they had center stage. This novel was a fun read. The book starts out at a very young age, and highlights various memories at different ages. Many of them are situations and altercations that we have experienced in the previous to books; giving Sweet Sofie a nice memory lane feel. Once I got into the main course it was a very heart felt and romantic read, but readers will find themselves frustrated with Sophie choices. As more and more of the Moreno traits become evident in Sophie’s character I was forced to change my perception of her character. Interestingly, Alex and Sal where both a huge part of this novel. Alex as his overbearing and protective nature, and Sal stepping into the limelight as the rescuer. Hopefully, preparing for his own book that is to be out shortly. This was a great addition to the Moreno series with its light and easy reading. I love following this families stories, and a look forward to continuing. The next book is that of Romero’s story, and I am anxious to see deeper into the his true character.

Cover Reveal and Giveaway!!!!

Oh My Gosh!!~ Is it not beautiful.

This is the second cover for the Affliction series by D. Apodaca. I obsolutely can't wait. If you have not read the first DO IT NOW! Better yet I have chances to win below.

Check this out I found excerpts for Unattainable:

Excerpt 1: Questions from Dean Excerpt
“What do you want from me?” I demanded.

Dean examined my eyes and looked disappointed in what he saw. “Do you remember anything?” He asked with hope.

“What are you talking about? I was with Shane, then I woke up here! He’ll kill you for this!” I warned.

Dean threw back his head and laughed. “That little mosquito can try.” Then he lowered his eyes and cocked a smile. “I dare him.”

The way he gazed at me was intense. I felt butterflies frantically flying in my stomach and up my chest.
“What do you want from me?” I demanded, as I pretended not to feel a rush of excitement from his close presence.

“Do you remember anything from your human life?” Dean asked and tilted his head to the side.

“No.” I responded immediately.

“Are you sure? Think really hard.” Dean insisted.

“I don’t. I’ve already tried thinking really hard. Why is this so important?” I asked.

Ignoring my question, Dean asked, “Do you remember your friends? Family?” He hesitated and nervously rubbed the back of his neck. “Maybe a boyfriend you had?”
Excerpt 2: Spotting Mindy
She slowly turned. I breathed hard with anticipation. I could taste her lips on mine. I could feel her soft touch embracing me. And I pictured her loving eyes penetrating mine. But what I saw made me want to die. Her eyes were brown, not hazel. Her lips weren’t even rosy. Her hair was clearly dyed. This wasn’t my Lina.

“Hi.” The girl said with interest as she looked me up and down. “Can I help you with
something?” Then she slightly popped her hip out and set her hand upon it, smiling while
waiting a reply.

I stayed frozen, staring at this girl as other feelings erupted inside me. Anger. Hate. Pain.

“What’s wrong with him?” She turned to Markus standing beside me after she had no
response from me. He didn’t answer either. We both stared at this imposter as you would stare at an unwanted gift.

About the book:

With the challenge complete and the corrupt Alpha of Coldspring defeated Fane is now free to complete the mate bond with Jacque and perform the Blood Rites. Although the challenge is done, the affects are far reaching. Once it is known that Vasile, one of the strongest Alphas in the world is in America, specifically Coldspring, TX, there is one Alpha who cannot over look the significance of this. An Alpha who happens to share Jacque's DNA, but is this the one she needs to fear?
With her mom driving and her two best friends, Jen and Sally in tow, Jacque sets off for her happily ever after. She will soon realize a plan has been put in motion that will change her course and possibly tear her from Fane's grasp forever. It will take a wolf pack, her mother's love, her two best friend's unrelenting determination, her own will to survive and the undying love of her mate to bring her home. The question remains, if she fights, if she endures, who will she be, what will be left once she is back in her mates arms?

Reviews Plate Quinn Loftis offers laugh out load funny novels that will grab readers with the witty humor and intense romance. I have been anxiously awaited this novel, and it was far exceeded my expectations. Jacque and Fane mesmerized readers with this heart stopping romance in Prince of Wolves. Book two Blood Rites starts up right when the first book ended, and will have readers jumping and running through this fast awesome read.  The addition of another palpable romance adds to the complexity of this lovable tale; while bring supporting characters into the limelight. It was fun to see the characters transform in this book. I am certain that we can look for these characters to continue throughout the remaining installments of The Grey Wolves series. There were also a few new addition to the cast in this book, and I was excited to see the developments for this characters as well. Especially in the development of Jacque’s Father. Quinn allows his character to be better understood and cherished I hope to see more of his character in the future. I even found myself to sympathize within these pages. The overall of feel of these novels are absolute intensity and momentum, but the addition of humor make the entire book. Jen is the majority of our comic relief , and I just can’t get over her character. I LOVE HER!!!! I was completely floored by the development of her character as well throughout this novel, and can’t wait to see the outcome of her situation in book three. It is obvious that Jen and Jacque are growing through this two novels, and I can’t wait to see what the future novels hold for the both of them. In the end, Loftis leaves me speechless and flabbergasted with this addictive read. I have trouble effectively expressing my love for this book, and its ability to increase my heart rate and take my breath away.  As my newest addition to my favorites list I must recommend this series.

About the book:

Her mom left, her dad is depressed, she's graduating, barely, and her boyfriend of almost three years dumped her for a college football schalorship. Lately she thinks life is all about hanging on by a thread and is gripping tight with everything she has. Then she meets Caleb. She saves his life and instantly knows there's something about him that's intriguing but she is supposed to be on her way to a date with his cousin. But things change when they touch, sparks ignite. Literally. They imprint with each other and she sees their future life together flash before her eyes. She learns that not only is she his soul mate, and can feel his heartbeat in her chest, but there is a whole other world of people with gifts and abilities that she never knew existed. She herself is experiencing supernatural changes unlike anything she's ever felt before and she needs the touch of his skin to survive. Now, not only has her dad come out of his depression to be a father again, and a pain as well, but Caleb's enemies know he's imprinted and are after Maggie to stop them both from gaining their abilities and take her from him. Can Caleb save her or will they be forced to live without each other after just finding one another?

Reviews Plate Significance is a powerful and mouth watering paranormal romance. From the start Crane gives a abrupt romance that will take readers a moment to grasp. The instantaneous love between Maggie and Caleb lacks the build up that captivates and mystifies readers. As the character come to terms with their uncontrollable heart stopping romance; so will the readers. To overcome this  significant’s have a rare ability to read one another's minds; for readers this will allow us to see past the intensity of this romance to truly learn the character.  This display of creativity shows talent, and the authors importance to detail and genuine emotion.  I am enthralled with all of the characters of the story with each unique and lovable personality. As a hopeless romantic I loved the possessive and protective nature of Caleb and his family.  This family offers her love, acceptance, and stability that helps her to transform from a young girl to a young woman by the end of the book.  Not everyone is happy about the imprint, and Maggie soon finds herself in the middle of a feud. With anger that has been seething for years, she is the chip that could sway the scale and the enemy will stop at nothing to have her. By the end of the book I struggled to recall any of the difficulty that I experience at the beginning, but as a reviewer I felt obligated to acknowledge some structural struggles. By the end of the novel Shelly Crane has proven to not only be a talented writer, but a story teller. I can’t wait to see what happens in Accordance, especially now that we have overcome the difficulty of starting such a complex story. BOOKWHISPERER RECOMMENDED!!!
