Review: The Wedding by Beth Fantaskey

Title: The Wedding
By: Beth Fantaskey
Genre: Young Adult
BookWhisperer Rating:

Description: Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Darkside's Sequel Online Chapters of Jess and Lucian's Wedding.

I was a fortunate follower of Beth Fantaskey when she was have the contest and vote links for some of the various entries that were to be a part of this sequel. I am so sad that this will not be printed. I love Beth Fantaskey writing and ability to pull the reader into her stories. I love reading books by author that can detail emotions down to the letter allowing the author to have feel what the characters are experiencing in the story. A lot of The Wedding Chapters were primarily Jess, but Lucian steps up in the final chapters to satisify the craving. I anxious await and hope that somewhere down the line we will have more to this series. Not just any author can write a story with this much detail and produce a masterpiece, even in a short story, but Beth Fantaskey proves to have risen to the occasion. If you have read Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Darkside it would be an utter sin to miss this short story.

Meg Cabot's New Book

I have always been a huge fan of the Mediator Series by Meg Cabot. Well I was running through my google reader and Lauren's Crammed Bookshelf has previewed a new book by Meg Cabot. This is not your ordinary chick lit book that I have come to expect from this author.

Insatiable by Meg Cabot is due for release June 8th of 2010. Here is a little preview of the book description:

A brilliantly funny modern day sequel to Dracula with the kind of twist only New York Times bestselling author Meg Cabot can imagine!

Sick of vampires? So is Meena Harper.

But her boss is making her write about them anyway, even though Meena doesn’t believe in them.

Not that Meena isn’t familiar with the supernatural. See, Meena Harper knows how you’re going to die (not that you’re going to believe her; no one ever does).

But not even Meena’s precognition can prepare her for what happens when she meets—then makes the mistake of falling in love with—Lucien Antonescu, a modern-day prince with a bit of a dark side . . . a dark side a lot of people, like an ancient society of vampire-hunters, ould prefer to see him dead for.
The problem is, he already is dead. Maybe that’s why he’s the first guy Meena’s ever met that she could see herself having a future with. See, while Meena’s always been able to see everyone else’s future, she’s never been able look into her own.

And while Lucien seems like everything Meena has ever dreamed of in a boyfriend, he might turn out to be more like a nightmare.

Now might be a good time for Meena to start learning to predict her own future . . .

If she even has one.

How exciting I can not wait!!

New Release Update: Dark Side of Dawn by Kathryn Smith

I read Before I Wake last year shortly after release. Unlike many adult romance books I was hooked by this awesome story. Here is the book description from

Kathry Smith's Website:
You may call it a dream job...
And in some ways, you'd be right. I actually get paid to study people's dreams. It comes much easier than my employers at the Sleep Center suspect; after all, I, Dawn, am the daughter of the king of the dream world, and I can roam the dreams of others, battling the nightmares that plague them.
I call it a nightmare...
Honestly, I could use a good night's sleep. But ever since I met Noah Clarke, I'm even more torn between the two worlds: smart, sexy, and able to control his own dreams, Noah could be my perfect manÑexcept he's being stalked in his sleep by an unearthly evil, hell-bent on destroying him ... and the entire world.

I have discovered today that the sequel to Before I Wake was just release 11/24/2009.

Here is Dark Side of Dawn book description from Smith's Wesite:

Life can be a Nightmare – literally...
Dawn Riley saved herself and her boyfriend Noah from a Night Terror bent on crossing over into the real world. You'd think she would be safe now, but now there's a price to be paid. The Nightmare Council claims she's broken their laws and is threatening to have her 'unmade' And as if that's not bad enough, there's a real world villain whom Dawn needs to find before he finds her. At this point the best Dawn can hope for is not to die in her sleep.

I look forward to reading, hope it is a good as the first book.

Title: Hush Hush

By: Becca Fitzpatrick

Reading Level: Young Adult

BookWhisperer Rating:

Five Stars

Book Description from Author’s  Website:

Falling in love was never so easy . . .

or so deadly.

For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch came along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment.

But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure who to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.

For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life.

My Review Talk about an awesome book. I finished this book in a little over one day. This is a non stop action adventure wrapped up in a love story. They book has been quite the rave for the past few months on the blog circuit, and it is official Becca Fitzpatrick overcome all of my expectations for this book. This is one of the few books that are perfect from beginning to end. Everything about this book is memorable, and will leave you craving more long past the last page. I am excited to announce that I read on the Fitzpatricks webpage there will be a second book called Crescendo with an expected release date scheduled for Fall of 2010.  So here is to another long wait anticipating another breath taking novel.

Review: Undiscovered Gyrl by Allison Burnett

Title: Undiscovered Gyrl
By: Allison Burnett
Reading Level: Literary Fiction
BookWhisperer Rating: 2 Stars

Book Synopsis from the Author's Site:
Beautiful, wild, funny, and lost, Katie Kampenfelt is taking a year off before college to find her passion. Ambitious in her own way, Katie intends to do more than just smoke weed with her boyfriend, Rory, and work at the bookstore. She plans to seduce Dan, a thirty-two-year-old film professor.

Katie chronicles her adventures in an anonymous blog, telling strangers her innermost desires, shames, and thrills. But when Dan stops taking her calls, when her alcoholic father suffers a terrible fall, and when she finds herself drawn into a dangerous new relationship, Katie’s fearless narrative begins to crack, and dark pieces of her past emerge.

Undiscovered Gyrl was sent to me as a review book. Katie has just finished High School and has decided she is not ready to begin college. With some advice she decides that she need to document her time with a journey, but instead of keeping a record of her journey through writing she decides to keep a blog that details the highlights of her life. At this point I still felt this story had awesome potential, but once I began delving into this story I was quickly let down. The story is a long drawn out process of a young girl gone wild. Many teens have a point in their lives where they go a little crazy with immaturity, and show some true colors for a little bit of time. Most of the book was a steady stream of what I considered boring dialog, and it felt as though the story was lacking a direction. The portion of this story that I found exceptionally interesting was the last few page of Katie's Mothers blog entries. All in all this story was very unsetlling which could enormously have to do with that I have pressed past this point in my life, and now as a Mother it is a nightmare to think that sooner rather than later may children could be going through a life patch such as this.

In My Mailbox #9

So exciting I had Christmas in November last night. When I came home from work I had three packages in the mail.

100_2808

The Awesome Midnight Moon Cafe sent me an awesome collection of bookmarks, postcards, magnets, book and a card. I am not entirely sure why I received all of this. The only think I can think is that it was from a contest that I entered, but I didn’t even win that contest. This is amazing. I need more friends like this. Hee Hee.

100_2810

Secondly, I reviewed Jessica Verday’s The Hollow a while back, and in the mail today I had this collection of a card, stickers, and bookmark. I then found that one of my packages was a book, more stickers, and perfumes from Verday. I was so excited I could hardly handle it. I have the perfumes in my curio cabinet for everyone to see, and they actually smell pretty darn good too.

100_2811

If you have not read my review for The Hollow check it out here.

I can not believe they sent me all of this. I am so looking forward to her second book. I can only hope that they will allow me the opportunity to review it.

Thirdly, I recieved a book that I am very anxious to start reading. Tenaya Jayne gave me100_2812 the wonderful opportunity to review her new book called Blue Aspen.

Book Description:

When seventeen-year-old Dulcee Elders' mother embarks on a road trip from their home in California, Dulcee knows something odd is about to happen. Her suspicions are confirmed when they arrive at Uncle Jack's house outside of Durango, Colorado. Without another word, Dulcee's mother is gone, and Dulcee faces life with her reclusive and wealthy uncle in a looming rural mansion.

Dulcee has suffered from insomnia ever since her father died more than ten years ago. But once at home at Uncle Jack's, inexplicably Dulcee now can sleep; sleep brings not only strange and intricate dreams, but a dream lover. For now, Vincent Sands is only the silhouette of a man, but when Uncle Jack leaves town for business, Dulcee's dream world and reality collide. Once she is alone, the silhouette is no longer content to remain only in her dreams.

When Dulcee is asleep, Vincent can give her anything she wants, even the ability to talk to her dead father. Inevitably, Vincent must leave when Uncle Jack returns. Dulcee experiences the high price of loving Vincent-an addiction rivaling that of any hard-core drug. Desperate to bridge the gap between them, Dulcee faces a crucial decision that carries irreversible consequences.

So here is to all the wonderful people that send me all of this awesome stuff.

You are Awesome!!!!!

letter and heart stoneMy Review

This is the coolest book that I have recieved. I have not even started to read  The   Inheritance Series, but I had to read through this guide after I recieved it. My entire family loves this book, and they don’t even read….. My daughter loves all of the cards and prop letters that are in the book. This book reads like you are a Dragon Heart and you are learning the heritage. Page has cool additions like fuzzy patches that are supposed to be the fur of the Feldunost, and glitter patch that is supposed to be the look of a dragons wing. This book is just so incredible and cool that you can not put it down. This would make an awesome christmas gift for someone that follows the Inheritance Series.

Review: Front and Center by Catherine Gilbert Murdock

Title: Front and Center
By: Catherine Gilbert Murdock
Genre: Young Adult Fiction
BookWhisperer Rating:

Book Synopsis from Author's Site:
In this hilarious and moving conclusion to the Dairy Queen trilogy, D.J. Schwenk returns to her small-town high school – only to find herself the focus of far too much attention. From an old friend now hot for romance, to college recruiters and rabid local hoops fans, to Brian Nelson . . . How will shy, quiet D.J. handle things now that she’s front and center?

Let's just say that I began this book a little unprepared. I was not aware when I began that this was the third book about the story of D.J. This was all around a alright story, but it was lacking in a real punch. I waited throughout the entire book for something outstanding that would catch my attention, and carry me the remainder of the book but it never happened. This was not a terrible story, and I didn't have to drag myself all the way through, but it was not a powerful story. Good for a quick light read. Although, it was noticeable that I had not read the previous two books. Make sure you visit Diary Queen and The Off Season before embarking on this venture.

*Special Thanks to Houghton Mifflin for this book.
**Also, going to have a giveaway for this book, make sure to keep your eye out.

BEASTLY TRAILER

Join me while I anxiously await CBS Films Production of Beastly. Star Alex Pettyfer will play the lead role of Kyle Kingson in this losely based tale of Beauty and the Beast.

Beastly is expected to be released July of 2010.

Based off of the Alex Flinn novel Beastly

Book Synopsis from author's site:

I am a beast. A beast. Not quite wolf or bear, gorilla or dog, but a horrible new creature who walks upright – a creature with fangs and claws and hair springing from every pore. I am a monster.

You think I’m talking fairy tales? No way. The place is New York City. The time is now. It’s no deformity, no disease. And I’ll stay this way forever – ruined – unless I can break the spell.

Yes, the spell, the one the witch in my English class cast on me. Why did she turn me into a beast who hides by day and prowls by night? I’ll tell you. I’ll tell you how I used to be Kyle Kingsbury, the guy you wished you were, with money, perfect looks, and a perfect life. And then, I’ll tell you how I became perfectly
beastly.

Review: Magic in the Shadows by Devon Monk

Title: Magic in the Shadows
By: Devon Monk
Genre: Adult Paranormal Romance
Series: Allie Beckstrom Series Book 3
BookWhisperer Rating:

Book Synopsis from Authors Site:
Magic is Allison Beckstrom's blessing and curse. As a Hound, she uses her gifts to track down practitioners who abuse their power and stop them from inflicting harm on unsuspecting innocents. Unfortunately, her spells have taken their toll on her, physically marking her and erasing her memories—including those of the man she supposedly loves.

But lost memories aren't the only things preying on Allie’s thoughts. Her late father, the prominent businessman—and sorcerer—Daniel Beckstrom, has somehow channeled himself into her very mind. With the help of The Authority, a secret organization of magic users, she hopes to gain better control over her own abilities—and find a way to deal with her father…

Wow I mean wow. Let just suffice to say that I LOVE THIS BOOK. This is the third book in the Allie Beckstrom series, and chosen to be my absolute favorite of this series. Magic in the Shadows  turned a corner in the series with this book. Allie is no longer following a endless tunnel of uncertainty. She has found friends and build relationship that have not failed with her memory loss. Devon Monk appeared to have become comfortable with her writing in this book, and soared through this amazing novel with grace. Allie and Zayvion maintain a relationship that can leave you breathless, and continue to raise the bar with every book. I was very impressed by the change of character for Zayvion in this book. I think Monk as maintained the great guy persona for Zayvion through the beginning of this series, but with the turn of magic in this book he has turned to the kick ass and take names bad boy; that we all know and love. Although, the overall feel of this book shifted moderately for me series has continued a sorrowful feel for Allie and her situations, but I have to say I did not feel this at all with this novel. I felt uplifted upon concluding Magic in the Shadow, and I can not wait for the next book.
