rush of wings

Rush of Wings (Book 1)

Book Description":

HIS NAME IS DANTE.
Dark. Talented. Beautiful. Star of the rock band Inferno. Rumored owner of the hot New Orleans nightspot Club Hell. Born of the Blood, then broken by an evil beyond imagination.
HIS PAST IS A MYSTERY.
F.B.I. Special Agent Heather Wallace has been tracking a sadistic serial murderer known as the Cross Country Killer, and the trail has led her to New Orleans, Club Hell, and Dante. But the dangerously attractive musician not only resists her investigation, he claims to be "nightkind": in other words, a vampire. Digging into his past for answers reveals little. A juvenile record a mile long. No social security number. No known birth date. In and out of foster homes for most of his life before being taken in by a man named Lucien DeNoir, who appears to guard mysteries of his own.
HIS FUTURE IS CHAOS.
What Heather does know about Dante is that something links him to the killer -- and she's pretty sure that link makes him the CCK's next target. Heather must unravel the truth about this sensual, complicated, vulnerable young man -- who, she begins to believe, may indeed be a vampire -- in order to finally bring a killer to justice. But Dante's past holds a shocking, dangerous secret, and once it is revealed not even Heather will be able to protect him from his destiny....

in the blood

In the Blood (Book 2)

Book Description:

DANTE LIVES.

Vampire. Rock star. Begotten son of the fallen angel Lucien. Dante Baptiste still struggles with nightmares and seizures, searching for the truth about his past. It is a quest as seductive as his kiss, as uncontrollable as his thirst, and as unforgiving as his determination to protect one mortal woman at any cost.
KNOWLEDGE KILLS.

FBI Special Agent Heather Wallace now knows the extent of the Bureau corruption that surrounds her, but worries she is losing the battle. And when Dante and his band Inferno come to Seattle on tour, Heather can't help but be drawn back to the beautiful, dangerous nightkind. But what Heather and Dante don't know is that new enemies lurk in the shadows, closer than they think...and even deadlier than they fear.
DESTINY UNFOLDS.

Shadowy government forces have pledged to eliminate all loose ends from Project Bad Seed -- and Heather and Dante are at the top of the list. Elsewhere, the Fallen gather in Gehenna, intent on finding their long-awaited savior, the True Blood nightkind whom Lucien DeNoir would die to protect. And a damaged and desperate adversary, with powers as strange and perilous as Dante's own, plots to use Dante as a pawn in a violent scheme for revenge. But only one of these lethal forces holds the key to Dante's past -- a key that could finally unlock the secret of his birth and the truth of his existence...or destroy him completely.

Waiting on Wednesday

This Waiting on Wednesday is dedicated to the second book of the Drake Chronicles, Blood Feud. I just finished Hearts at Stake by Alyxandra Harvey this week. I can not wait for the next book. To see my review for Hearts at Stake look here.

Book Description for Blood Feud:
It’s been centuries since Isabeau St. Croix barely survived the French Revolution. Now she’s made her way back to the living and she must face the ultimate test by confronting the evil British lord who left her for dead the day she turned into a vampire. That’s if she can control her affection for Logan Drake, a vampire whose bite is as sweet as the revenge she seeks.
The clans are gathering for Helena’s royal coronation as the next vampire queen, and new alliances are beginning to form now that the old rifts of Lady Natasha’s reign have started to heal. But with a new common enemy, Leander Montmarte—a vicious leader who hopes to force Solange to marry him and usurp the power of the throne for himself—the clans must stand together to preserve the peace he threatens to destroy.

This second adventure in the Drake Chronicles—told from both Logan’s and Isabeau’s perspectives—has all the same butt-kicking action, heart-pounding romances and snarky humor that readers loved in Hearts at Stake, as well as exciting new revelations about the vampire dynasties to keep readers coming back for more.

Review: Captivate by Carrie Jones

Title Captivate

By: Carrie Jones

Review Copy from Bloomsbury Books

BookWhisperer Rating:

two stars

Book Description:

Zara and her friends knew they hadn’t solved the pixie problem for good. Far from it. The kings' needs grow deeper every day he’s stuck in captivity, while his control over his pixies gets weaker. So when a new, younger pixie king shows up, war is imminent. The new king, Astley, claims he’s not evil, that his pixies can coexist peacefully with humans and were’s. Zara’s boyfriend, Nick, isn’t buying it; no pixie could possibly be a good guy. But Zara is half pixie herself, and she is just starting to think Astley could be right when Astley lets her in on another secret.; he believes Zara’s relationship with Nick is about to come to an end.-and that she is fated to be his queen….

reviews plate copy I enjoyed the first book of this series; Need, but when I started reading Captivate. I was struggling from the first chapter on. Many things did not settle right when me in this book. I was having trouble feeling the relationship between Zara and Nick, and I was struggling with the fantasy direction that this book took. In Need the fantasy aspect of the story was coincided with reality, but in this book it seems as though this story is taking on more fantasy and I am having trouble enjoying the read.  I don’t see myself reading any other books that may come from this series. Sorry no words of literary wisdom here.

Review Book from Bloomsbury Books

BookWhisperer Rating:

Luckily she has her own secret weapon—her human best friend Lucy—who is willing to defend Solange’s right to a normal life, whether she’s being smothered by her well-intentioned brothers or abducted by a power-hungry queen. Two unlikely alliances are formed in a race to save Solange’s eternal life—Lucy and Solange’s brother Nicholas, and Solange and Kieran Black—in a dual romance that is guaranteed to jump start any romance-lover’s heart.

With the abundance of information above I would think that a description of this book is not necessary. This is my new favorites addition, and I will definitely be following this series in the future. I can not shake the undeniable feeling of similarities between the writing of this author and that of Richelle Mead in the Vampire Academy Series. Although, these are very different settings and characters the intensity of the emotions and relationships are very similar.

Lucy and Solange are the main characters, and I love the relationship between these two girls. There is nothing one will not do for the other, and their unconditional love for one another is felt throughout this book. Even though, Solange is about to become the first born vampire in 800 years these two character are equals and their is no dominance through their relationship. I am still questioning what exactly Lucy is or is to become, and if she is just merely human or a protector of Solange in some fashion. I look forward to clarification on this in the next book.

On the other hand Nicholas and Kiernan’s character are very addicting. Though, sexy is defined by a man that has a gentle touch for the one he loves, but become ferocious and intense when it comes their safety and protection. Can we say, don’t drool on your book. Interestingly, I also loved the brotherly aspect in this story. This is a first of the overprotect vampire brothers, and I found it most entertaining.

You may be wondering how a great storyline existed around so many relationships, but I am here to tell you that it was amazing. Hearts at Stake was a constant rollercoaster; whether it be a fight scene a love scene you were constantly in motion. Alyxandra Harvey never lets you tire of the story in this debut novel, and it is a must read that will capture your attention from the first page. Don’t wait this one you must read.

the mud fairy

Title: The Mud Fairy

By: Amy Young

Reading Level: 4-8 years

Review Book from Bloomsbury Books 03/02/2010 Release

BookWhisperer Rating: five stars

Book Description from Amazon:

Wearing pink and tiptoing through the dewdrops is for wimps! Emmelina would rather play with her friends, the frogs. But can a fairy with an independent streak earn her wings if she goes against the fairy code? Warm, humorous, and with just the right amount of pink (and mud), here's a book that will capture the hearts of girly-girls and tomboys alike.

reviews plate copy

The Mud Fairy is a very cute story of a fairy that is looking for your ability to earn her wings. Although, Emmalina is not like most fairies. While Emmalina must learn just because she not like other fairies does not mean that she is not special, and that is talented just not in the way that everyone else may be. Children also undergo a lesson about the change of tadpoles to frogs in this book. Amy Young introduced the children these lessons with humor. The illustration for The Mud Fairy is very simple and calm accompanying a slow paced story that will teach children while having fun.

Something must be done to tame her wild locks, and although it’s no easy task, Ella and her mother find a solution that makes them both happy. Riotously demonstrating the daily battle of wills that all parents and daughters are familiar with, this pitch-perfect text captures Ella’s contagious energy and reminds readers that almost every problem has a solution. (From Amazon)

reviews plate copy Awesome book for little girls! This is a wonderful book with a useful lesson about brushing your hair, and the consequences for not taking care of yourself. The reading level in this book is labeled for 4-8 years of age, and I do feel that it is a good lesson for the ages given. Although, the actually vocabulary makes me lean more toward ages of 8-10. Illustration is modernly cute keeping young readers attention. The story as a whole takes on a poetry rhythm that gives further reading enjoyment. Awesome read, one worth owning.

Book Description:

Too purpley, too tickly, too puckery, too prickly!

Clothing is a constant fight in our home, so this book was very relatable. Too Purpley is very simplistic, and a easy read for the old ages. Hayley enjoyed being able to read this book herself. Due to the simplistic nature their is not much of a moral to the story, but is a wonderful practice for reading. Definitely, a girlie books and would not carry much use for little boys. The illustration was very modern and cute making viewing very entertaining.

But once at home at Uncle Jack's, inexplicably Dulcee now can sleep; sleep brings not only strange and intricate dreams, but a dream lover. For now, Vincent Sands is only the silhouette of a man, but when Uncle Jack leaves town for business, Dulcee's dream world and reality collide. Once she is alone, the silhouette is no longer content to remain only in her dreams.

When Dulcee is asleep, Vincent can give her anything she wants, even the ability to talk to her dead father. Inevitably, Vincent must leave when Uncle Jack returns. Dulcee experiences the high price of loving Vincent-an addiction rivaling that of any hard-core drug. Desperate to bridge the gap between them, Dulcee faces a crucial decision that carries irreversible consequences. (From Amazon)

reviews plate copy

First and foremost, I have to say I really liked this book. The reason I feel that duty to present this first hand is because this is not a easy novel to love. This is a intricate and delicately crafted story that is near impossible to separate dream from reality.

Blue Aspen begins in the setting of a psychiatric institution, but quickly diverts to the autobiography of Dulcee Elders which remains the focal point until the last 100 pages. Complicated as this sounds, it was incredibly effective, and an interesting approach at this story.

The pace of the novel was incredibly fast paced, and carried the read throughout. It was not complicated to continuing read, but it lacked resolution. My mind is still continuing to process this book, but understanding still evades me. Please do not look to Blue Aspen  for understanding, but if you are a fan of complication this is the book for you.
