Book Whisperer's Review:
Friends
with benefits was never the plan…
Melanie
Jacobs is in trouble. With three jobs—including running her ranch—and dwindling
funds, she’s exhausted. Not to mention desperately trying to hide a secret.
Unfortunately, her best friend Colton Freeze knows all too well that’s something
is going on, and he won’t give up until he knows exactly what he needs to fix.
Then
Colton learns the truth—that Melanie’s future happiness rests in the fickle
hands of fate, and her chances for having a family are shrinking with every
passing day. Her only comfort is Colton, but when a heated argument between
them turns into an even hotter kiss, the boundaries of their friendship are
erased, leaving only a scorching-hot hunger for more.
Every
kiss—every touch—is a stolen pleasure. But will their new
friends-with-sexy-benefits arrangement bring them closer together, or destroy
everything they once shared?
Ekkkkk!
You know that I love friendships turning into something more and it happens, in
this book!
The
character Colton is the perfect mixture of the good ole’ boy, raised right,
helps old ladies across the street with a side of downright sexiness and a dash
of dirty. I quite enjoyed reading him and especially his interactions
with Mel. As the reader, you can tell how much he loves her but he fights
the feelings. Heck, the whole town has a bet of when Colton and Mel end
up together, so the town knows how amazing they would be together. But,
like always, life is not making it easy for them. Both Mel and Colton
value their friendship more than anything and would never want to ruin it, even
if that means taking a chance at love. However, Mel is in a sticky
situation and it leaves Colton to really think about what she means to him and
how she fits into his life.
Melanie was amazing to read about. She was such a strong character. Mel has lost her grandfather and is keeping up his ranch, while working two other jobs. She refuses to take any handouts from Colton, even though she knows that he could afford it, and she has no problem speaking up for herself. Melanie wasn’t a whiney character likes some women are in certain books. She stood strong and tall throughout this book; something that I admired.
