Review: The Mating (Law of the Lycans #1) by Nicky Charles

Title: The Mating
By: Nicky Charles
Series: Law of the Lycans #1

Book Whisperer's Rating:

Elise had no idea when she came home that day that she'd end up mated to a complete stranger. A new Alpha and the need for an alliance between packs have made her a pawn.

Plots that throw two characters (that are complete strangers to each other straight from the start) together are always interesting because I feel like the reader gets to learn about these characters from a whole new perspective.  We don't see the immediate attraction when the girl meets boy or vice versa since these two characters are being forced together.  Elise's father has decided that she will be bonded to Kane, an alpha from another pack in just the first few pages.  This is something that Kane has agreed to but Elise is very unhappy with the decision since she is already in love with another wolf.  However, she is willing to do what is good for her father's pack so she agrees and bonds with Kane that night and leaves the next day to his territory.

So what I loved reading was how Elise slowly saw who Kane really was.  How he was as an alpha, a human, a mate, and a lover.  And how all of this starts changing her perspective about him and how she cares and eventually loves him.  Unfortunately, we only get one chapter that is from Kane's perspective and I felt like I would have loved this book even more if we got to see how Kane sees Elisa as a human, a mate, and a lover as well.

But you can't have a great book without drama and The Mating sure did have just that.  Kane's old flame, Marla, stirs and pokes at Elise until you are just ready to punch her.  It made me furious that Kane did not see all that was happening.  This story sets up a chain of events for the future books (I have just finished the second in this series) so keep reading this series because they just keep getting better.
