Review: Golden Trail (The 'Burg #3) by Kristen Ashley

Title: Golden Trail
By: Kristen Ashley
Series: The 'Burg #3
My Copy: Amazon.com
Rating:

Tanner Layne and Raquel Merrick fell in love young, hard and fast and both of them knew a beautiful life they thought would be forever.

Until Rocky left Layne, no explanation, no going back.

Layne escapes The ‘Burg only to come back years later because his ex-wife has hooked herself to the town jerk and Layne needs to make sure his sons get raised right. Layne manages to avoid Rocky but when Layne gets three bullets drilled into him while investigating a dirty cop, he can’t do that because Rocky stops avoiding Layne. They make a deal to work together to expose the dirty cop but they have no idea the strength of their enduring attraction or the sheer evil at work in The ‘Burg.

As Tanner Layne and Raquel Merrick play their game and dance around the pull that draws them together, Layne has to discover the dark secrets buried so deep in Rocky’s heart she doesn’t even know they’re there at the same time untangle a sinister web of crime so abhorrent it has to be stopped... at all costs.

And to do it, Layne has to enlist everyone, including his ex-CIA mentor, Rocky’s detective brother, the town’s unpredictable informant and Layne’s two teenage sons all the while stopping Rocky from doing something crazy and keeping their game secret so Layne won't get himself dead.

I feel like all of my KA reviews always end up saying the same thing because KA always brings the best to the table and always knocks my socks off.  Every man she writes is wonderfully handsome, over protective, and his hotness is off the charts.  Every heroine is beautiful, full of spunk, and has a heart of gold.  KA brought all these characteristics to Golden Trail and amazed me yet again with her wonderful writing.

I have a few favorite parts in this book that made my heart all warm and fuzzy.  The first is the relationship that Layne has with his two boys.  At first, it is a little rocky and unstable but as time goes on, it becomes solid as a rock.  Those boys (and Rocky) mean the world to him and he has no problem showing it.  He tries his hardest to raise them to be great men.  The second would be the chapter titled “Dark.”  It really emotionally hits you with why Rocky left and what has been buried inside of her for 18 years.  But during this revelation, Layne shows just the upmost care to her and I really got to see how much he truly does love her.

KA brings her wonderful characters from book one and two into this mix so that you get to see how all of their relationships are progressing and how close knit everyone is, which I loved.
